Exploring Life & Business with Nicholas Houston of TaxaidUSA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Houston.

Hi Nicholas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I originally got into taxes from a college case study on the modern e-file system & the real estate market crash of 2008. When I first got out of school I settled into a career in real estate investment & finance which I still have a passion for however like most during that time the entire market crashed. So being my ambitious self I set out my sites on a new career that I felt had more stability and would stand the test of time which was as they say death & taxes are two promises in this life.

So I jumped in head first only to learn all the different nuances of operating a business. The best reward is every year enjoying that I get to work will individuals and business owners from all different backgrounds all over the US year after year and help them financially. To me, tax season is the next Holiday after Christmas!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a small business owner it’s never been smooth, I always say starting a business is a faith walk because you have to work and believe in the unseen.

Every stage of business requires new challenges & focus there were times I wasn’t sure if we would make payroll and other times I had more than enough so now I know to never get too high or low. I feel like I was an entrepreneur before it was popular and there were so many resources so I’m def from the school of hard knocks which has made me a better business owner today I really feel well prepared to meet challenges and train up my staff to be successful.

We’ve been impressed with TaxaidUSA, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
TaxaidUSA is a tax & accounting firm that focuses on everyday Americans looking to get ahead. We’ve been around for over ten years so that was a huge accomplishment for me given so many small businesses fell in the first 5 years. I’m most excited about the different divisions we have for individuals, and business owners & as well as the software licensing we offer to the industry.

We have services and products for everyone rather it’s a family looking to maximize their tax refund, a business owner needing to know their numbers and tax plan to minimize their tax bill, or a small mom & pop tax office owner needing solutions to compete nationwide.

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I recommend always finding someone you can mirror and whose shoulders you can stand on to limit your mistakes and learning curve. The only way to find a shortcut is through someone else’s knowledge.
