Rising Stars: Meet Jasmine Pittman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Pittman.

Hi Jasmine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My photography journey began during my freshmen year of high school. I remember seeing my first camera a canon rebel t3i on QVC and thinking, “this was made for me”. I begged my parents to buy it for me and ever since then, I’ve been on my creative journey.

When I was a freshman I started off doing my friend’s quinceaneras and then my sophomore year doing my friend’s sweet 16’s. I was a lot more naive back then; unfortunately, my camera was stolen and I was left without one until my senior year when I got a new one. The one I have with me now is my canon t6i. Getting to where I am today has been a long journey that is still ongoing. I

have been able to demonstrate my skills as a photographer all across the country and hopefully soon across the sea. From sweet 16s to baseball tournaments and then to fashion shows I have experienced almost all types of clientele and I thank them so much for trusting me with their special moments.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think anyone who owns a business has ever done so smoothly, especially those of us in the creative business. For me, social media is one of the biggest challenges and one of my best tools to utilize. Social media is amazing for growing a business but has become extremely saturated over the years. A lot of people have become self-proclaimed professionals in this day and age. Offering low rate for low quality.

A lot of people would rather pay less in this economy or go out and buy their camera and do the work themselves resulting in a less than piece of work. Keeping up with the times is hard but important. Those that still recognize good quality still book those of us that provide it and I can’t thank them enough.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I did a previous interview where my brand still upholds; that branding being: A multi-niches creator. A niche is important when you work in the creative industry and want to grow and/or make money from it. Humans are complex, but the average human usually displays the desire to brand themselves.

Today the kids are calling it an ‘aesthetic’. You have wedding photographers, event photographers, lifestyle photographers, real estate photographers, and so on. I do it all for me, and that is what I am known for. I don’t like limiting myself to one box but instead checking them all.

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I would define success as being content with where you are and how you got there.
