Sharie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a love for photography but never did I think it would become a business. I started this journey after completing a Master’s Degree in Psychology and having too much free time. I asked GOD for my passion and He gave me photography. Seeing others laugh and I’m able to capture that specific moment is priceless.
A photo calls for one to remember the space and time that a moment was captured. This brings about nostalgia. As a single mom, the photography business has truly been a blessing to me and my family. In addition to my full-time job as a Social Worker, I’m able to experience this journey with others thru moments captured.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, their road hasn’t been smooth. I’ve had to learn business skills which are different for me since I’m no business major. I’ve had to move my studio a couple of times unexpectedly. Finances were a struggle due to everything I purchased from the business finances. So finally here in year 3, there’s finally some profit. The business wasn’t always what it is today, however with the support of so many, the business is thriving.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A unique Photography experience is unique just as each individual is unique. I specialize in and am known for my studio photography experience. Studying and earning a Psychology degree sets me apart from others. I’m able to talk with clients about life and other challenges during sessions.
Life experiences also set me apart from others. I’m able to relate to others and show compassion for them during sessions. I offer not only studio photography but also event and wedding photography. No wedding is too small.
Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice is to talk to others who are successful in the area you’d like to be successful. Networking has worked well for me. Asking questions for assistance has also worked well and continued playing a major role in my business growth.
