Conversations with Tisha Dolby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tisha Dolby.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a survivor/overcomer of child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and loss of a child as well as being a product of drug and alcohol addiction. These many traumas left me lost, broken, confused, and ill-equipped to manage adulting. As a result, my early adult years were met with various challenges, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and the probability of continuing many of these traumas. Making the intentional choice to heal, learn how to increase my self-love, and break the cycles of trauma became the catalyst and introduction to my life’s purpose.

During my healing journey, I began to share my testimony, mentor others along their journey, as well as facilitating various workshops and groups. I quickly became a safe haven and place of refuge for friends, family, and the community by providing a place for healing, growth, education, and supportive services from the comfort of my home.

After relocating from Pittsburgh, PA to Los Angeles, CA a major life-altering transition that was met with more trauma and adversity, God, laid it upon my heart to begin Power Passion Purpose Inc., a faith-based nonprofit organization. The vision that He gave me was to start the nonprofit and operate it the way He gave me. I quickly realized that I had been operating my organization unofficially since the loss of my daughter in 1995. Power Passion Purpose Inc. was officially established in 2016 in Los Angeles, California. We began by offering supportive services, trauma support groups, community days, and personalized action plans for survivors. We focus on meeting women where they are and working with them until individual self-sufficiency is obtained. We relocated to Northwest Houston, Texas (2021).

The mission of Power Passion Purpose is, We help women who have experienced trauma, violence, abuse, & human trafficking learn to safely live independently through our transitional housing program with supportive services. The vision of Power Passion Purpose is to empower, equip, educate women to breakthrough the cycles of trauma, violence & abuse. Power Passion Purpose will also provide 24-hour safety net services and ongoing aftercare services. Power Passion Purpose works closely with our local community collaborators, law enforcement, counselors, and social workers to ensure the women have a safe passage out.

Power Passion Purpose VALUES

Every woman deserves to be safe, secure & to thrive. Power Passion Purpose’s possessive values are:

I. Lead with the Agape Love of God.
II. Everything is done with integrity.
III. Everything we do and say is intentional.
IV. Listen to hear, see, and understand first.
V. Encourage, empower, & edify every woman.
VI. No woman is judged for her situation.
VII. Our Motto: “I CHOOSE ME & EVERYTHING ELSE COMES SECOND”.

Ultimately, Power Passion Purpose Nonprofit’s mission is to help the underserved community of Houston, help stop the cycles of trauma, and/or domestic violence, and provide a safe way out.

Per Texas Domestic Violence Statistics of 2020 Harris County accounted for 41, 300 almost doubling the next county of Dallas with 22,136. 25.8% of the total number of reported Family Violence Incidents in Texas included wives, common-law wives, and ex-wives. 143 Texas law officers were assaulted during the course of responding to a domestic violence incident per the report.

Power Passion Purpose currently has an expansion project ongoing to secure a facility that will allow phase II (phased out transitional housing) and phase III (intake to employment resource center) of the organization to open.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has been a road met with various trials and tribulations. For starters not only are we a nonprofit we are a faith-based nonprofit that has been met with its own set of challenges, then we relocated (which is like basically starting over).

Being smaller nonprofit access to funding and assistance is limited and there is not much support to actually get up and running like other for-profit businesses. Securing recurring sponsorships and donations is a huge challenge, as well as not having adequate staff leaves everyone associated with the organization stretched thin.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Founder/Executive Director of Power Passion Purpose Inc, Speaker, & LifeStylist Coach. I specialized in helping others heal, grow in self-love, and thrive after trauma. I approach my work from a holistic standpoint dealing with mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

The process I teach is the “I Choose Me & Everything Else Comes 2nd Box” The process of healing & self-love through words. Educating others on trauma, trauma responses (adult temper tantrums), and coping mechanisms. I am most proud of the fact that I was able to break the cycles of child abuse, domestic violence, and addiction. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I have lived experience in every area that I deal with, I lead from a place of relatability and ongoing supportive services for as long as my clientele needs it. I also provide my clients with the option to take a break from the process as at times it may be very overwhelming.

What do you think about luck?
As a believer I don’t believe in luck, If I believed in luck I would have to say I have the worst luck possible. My life was set up for me to fail from conception. I believe in God’s timing. Although I may not have a clear understanding, I am completely aware of everything has a season, beginning, and end. The transition in the middle is usually the toughest. I have various isms that I live by – we can’t stop life from life and we can’t stop people from being people but we can choose how we respond.

I am very intentional about my yeses and my no’s and I make the best sound choice I can with what I have available to me. Every choice has a consequence be it good or bad but when we are intentional about the choices we have the capacity to handle the outcomes either way. I believe that if you have breath in your body you have an opportunity to CHOOSE. If you have breath in your body God is not finished with you, your assignment is not complete. You are born with a purpose, on purpose for a purpose. It is up to us to figure it out.
