Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayda Gabriel.
Hi Jayda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was a kid, I lost my mother, and I went through a lot of pain. In that pain, I always kept God near, and he counseled me through it. God provided me with insight and said one day I will become a counselor and help others find their voice and gave true guidance. After God healed me, He said I would give life to something, little did I know it was a poetry book, a few actually. My poetic/artistic ability actually comes from both my mom and my dad. When I come from is pain, but where I am is all because of God. I have a bachelor’s degree, I’m in my master’s program. I have the opportunity to counsel individuals. I am a black woman who didn’t just survived, I am living.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth because there is a lot of healing that I gained and I’m still in the process of receiving. Losing a mom isn’t easy. I think about her every day and ask myself, “what would my mom say about this?” I have a lot of women figures in my life who help guide me, and they love me so much. I’ve dealt with anxiety, PTSD, depression, and so much lost, but I never let that become who I am.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am in my practicum in a professional counseling setting as a clinician for a black-owned private practice. I am learning different strategies and techniques to help my clients overcome their challenges and find their voice.
I am known for my silly personality; I am always smiling and laughing and just being a goofball.
I am proud of myself for where I am today.
I don’t know what sets me apart, maybe it’s my forgiving heart, lol. Honestly, I don’t know. I just hope that God’s light is shining bright on me that they see him.
I know for sure my poetry is different and definitely relatable.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is going ice skating with my mom and my uncle.
