Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Barron.
Hi Rachel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
“Don’t go to law school – sell insurance” – that’s what my dad (who is an attorney) said to my sisters and I more times than I can count growing up. I am (now very proud to be) the proverbial “black sheep” of my family and as a child, tended to learn lessons the “hard way,” so naturally, I went into the legal field. In my defense, I didn’t take a job as a law firm secretary with the intention to become an attorney; it just happened to play out that way.
After just a couple of weeks working as a secretary in my dad’s firm over a decade ago, I fell in love with the work and the fulfillment I got from helping people. So, I went back to school and finished my undergraduate degree in November 2017. After finishing undergrad, I earned a master’s degree in May 2018. In August 2018, I started law school at Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia. During my first semester of law school, I got Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization as a Paralegal in Family Law. I also earned the Ronald L. Fick book award for the highest grade in my Family Law course in law school. I graduated in just under two years with my Juris Doctorate and sat for the bar in February 2021. Thankfully, I passed the bar on my first try, and I have been practicing family law almost exclusively ever since.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not. Sure, having a dad as a lawyer was helpful because I had someone to learn from, but working full time and finishing two degrees is not easy work- especially when you have three small children at home. During law school, I was taking more hours than most students to complete my accelerated doctoral program within 2 years. When COVID hit, I was balancing a part-time job, “COVID-schooling” my three kids, and juggling 18 doctrinal hours. The week before I sat for the bar exam, Texas had Winter Storm Uri (who knew they named winter storms?), and we ended up “stuck” in my parent’s house with nine people in the final days of bar prep.
I am very fortunate to have an extremely supportive, understanding, and loving husband who has faithfully backed my crazy ambitions – I could not have done any of this without him and without the grace of God.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We work with industry-leading professionals who are seeking a cooperative, minimal-conflict divorce. We help our clients navigate this challenging process by focusing on the details so our clients can protect what matters most to them.
We are different from other firms because our firm is focused on realistic, practical representation. We are (sometimes “brutally”) honest with our clients, we do not sugar-coat the facts or anticipated outcomes. If our clients have unrealistic goals, we help them understand the law, what is probable and what is possible – not simply tell them what they want to hear. We also help our clients think long-term and try to offer solutions which help them minimize the probability for future litigation. Our clients value this method and are consistently providing positive feedback on our practical approach to family law cases.
I am most proud of our reputation for excellence in client service and representation. We are known for providing exceptional representation in family law matters. Anything from divorce to child custody, to pre-marital planning and everything “family law” in between, we can help with. We also offer mediation services, attorney ad litem or amicus attorney services for minor children, and consumer bankruptcy representation.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
We believe honesty and hard work are equally important to our success. We work hard for our clients; we don’t cut corners or skip steps. We value honesty above all else, so we have a great reputation not only publicly, but within the legal community as well. This reputation gives our clients an advantage in negotiations and litigation because opposing counsel and the Courts know we say what we mean, mean what we say, and will follow-through on promises.
Pricing:
