Rising Stars: Meet Aaron Spencer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Spencer.

Hi Aaron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In the year 2020, at the beginning of covid, I was out of school during the quarantine. I was relaxing and enjoying my time at home when my mother (Chanel Spencer) said that I needed to do something. So I thought to myself, how to can I make a name for myself as a person.  I was asking myself questions like; What do I like to do? So on and on. I realized that I wanted to start a business of own because I liked the idea of working for myself. Two of my favorite things are candles and tea. They are an awesome combo when you think of it  Candles make your house warm and inviting while tea warms the soul. During the pandemic, we needed those two things because everything revolved around the home. It’s the most that we all stayed at home ever to be truthful. So I am glad that I am able to supply a product that make someone’s sanctuary welcoming.
At that  very moment, Untamed Scents was born. I named the business “Untamed Scents” because both our candles and tea are wildly aromatic and unbridled. They are an eclectic mix of whether fragrances, fruits, or teas. Hence the name- untamed.Truth be told, I wouldn’t be where I am now without my mother who helps me with the packaging, branding, finding markets, and building the website. She is my biggest supporter and no1 employee.  I’m happy I took her advice.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There is no such thing as a smooth road for any business, especially in this day and age. I would say our main struggle is being a niche product line. My candles and teas will not be a fan favorite for everyone. Also they are named and based off my HBCU experience. Each installation is based off each year of my schooling. Whether is something crazy that happened to me one night or a person I met along the way. We are approaching the Senior year soon.  So everyone can’t and won’t relate to that experience.  Everyone doesn’t get some of the  colloquialism like ” walk the yard or what’s Poppin.”  We even have a playlist for some of candles. Yes, you scan the code and listen to some music on your phone. It’s ok because it’s my goal to get everyone to see that it’s still good product.  So it’s taking that uniqueness and making it palatable for everyone to want to consume/purchase this product. It’s difficult but we are doing it slowly.
We do a lot of  farmers markets because we love the face to face. So you get a lot feedback instantly about people’s  interests.  So I am sometimes able to cater to it or other times it’s constructive criticism. That’s a tricky balance because you want to please every customer. It’s realizing that this is an ever-changing market and you must constantly evolved to get the growth needed to remain in the game.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So, I do many things personally right now. I’m in college at the Illustrious Texas Southern University, where I’m studying to become a pilot. I am also a music artist. I go under the name Noel. I would say I’m very proud of my musical work as well as my business. These things keep me  grounded and more importantly, humble.
Any big plans?
Further down in the future, I want to see the business in some storefronts. Perhaps maybe I will  have a store of my own. I would like to become a competitor to some big box brands that we all love.
Of course, graduate from TXSU and become licensed commerical  pilot as well. However my immediate plans are the release of our spring scents
