Today we’d like to introduce you to Camirey Jackson.
Camirey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Camirey A Jackson, and I am a 29-year-old mother, teacher, and author. I was born and raised in Jefferson, Texas. Before high school, I moved to Austin, Texas, for better opportunities. During my time in Austin, I became very successful in track & field. I was offered a full-ride scholarship to Prairie View A&M University for track & field which was the start to my successful journey. Fall 2017 I graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in human performance. I also received a master’s degree in educational administration Fall 2019 from Prairie View A&M University after having my first daughter Lilly. I am currently a Physical Education teacher as well as the head cheer and track & field coach at Hempstead ISD. I have lead the LadyCats track & field team to multiple success with advancing to the area, regional, and medaling at the state meet. Outside of coaching, I have had great success as an author. I published my first children’s book last year called “Video Calls With Dad.” Which sheds light on a father and daughter’s relationship via video calls. Lilly was my drive for this book. I wanted her to have a book that represented her life and her relationship with her dad. I also wanted to put a positive outlook on co-parenting and show that they can be successful if you put the main focus on the child. With all these amazing accomplishments, my daughters Lilly and Mia still have been my greatest accomplishments so far.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being a single mother has been a learning experience, and it has taught me the importance of a support system. When starting my first career in teaching in Hempstead. I didn’t have family nearby to help me with my daughter Lilly and her dad lived in Memphis, Tennessee. Hempstead really embraced me and my daughter. There were days I didn’t know who would watch my daughter while I coached. The loving families in Hempstead seen me struggling and stepped in and offered the help I truly needed. Their love has shown me that I’m just not another employee but family, and I will be forever grateful.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a mother, teacher, and coach. I wake up every day excited to help children be the best versions of themselves. I’m known for bringing excitement, strong relationships, and culture to my classroom. This love for making an impact on kids has carried over in my coaching life as well. I have helped multiple kids get to the next level in track & field after high school. I have started a summer track program to help my students grow mentally and physically. This love for children really was the push for my children’s book “Video Calls With Dad.” I pride myself on being a great mother, and I will always put my children first. My daughter isn’t the only child I know who lives in a co-parenting home. I have multiple students who have the same lifestyle, and I knew they needed a book that represented what they see every day. I truly believe what sets me apart from others Is my drive to impact every person I meet. Rather it be my students, friends, children, or a random person I met at the at a track meet.
What matters most to you?
My family matters most to me. My boyfriend Justin and my two daughters Lilly and Mia are my everything. They make this crazy world not so crazy because I have them to wake up to every morning and to come home to every night.
