Meet Aaron Chadwick of JMS of Houston in The Woodlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Chadwick.

Aaron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been an entrepreneur since I was 12 years old and pulled a lawnmower behind my bike to mow customer’s yards. This business, Aaron’s Lawn Care, bought me my first truck and put me through college, where I met my wife, Casey. She grew up in a family owned business and my father-in-law, Bill Stephens, was a wealth of knowledge. He had started multiple successful businesses, the last one being Hallmark Office Products. With his guidance, I partnered with my brother-in-law and became Bluebonnet Landscaping. We were located in the Clear Lake area. We grew the business to over 1.2 million when I sold my part to my brother-in-law. From here, I went on to work in the janitorial industry, being a sales/operations manager and excelling in the company, being promoted to Executive Director of Sales. After about 9 years with this company, I decided to go a different direction, as I am an entrepreneur at heart. After honoring my 2 year non-compete, I had an opportunity to acquire a small janitorial company, JMS of Houston. How did I get to where I am today? It’s simple really, God, determination, hard work, surrounding myself with smarter people than me, and listening when they spoke.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Overall, we have been very blessed. Have we had our challenges, yes. My wife came from a very well-off family and when she married me, she left that lifestyle. We sacrificed for years so that we could get to where we are today. She coupon shopped and loved going to garage sales to furnish our home and buy clothes and books for our 3 kids. We found ourselves in debt after the births of our 3 children, as we did not have health insurance. During this time, my wife worked for her dad for a year to help get us out of debt. It was a year of long days for the entire family. Our oldest son was 4 years old, our daughter was 2 years old, and our youngest was only 6 months old. This was by far the hardest time for us. The day we paid off the last credit card, Casey could stay home again and take care of the family, which was her wish as well as mine. We really tried to learn from this and not get into the same situation. It took discipline and was not easy! Because of the sacrifices…no cable, no ice cream, no new vehicles, and much more…we were able to work our way up. If you don’t have the money for it without going into debt, then don’t do it.

When I left Bluebonnet Landscaping, we weren’t sure which direction to go. I worked for my father-in-law for a short time until my wife found an ad in the paper for a sales/operations manager job that would eventually teach me about the janitorial industry. I quickly fell in love with the industry and grew in this business. Today, as we continue to build JMS of Houston, we work hard to provide the best services available to our customers throughout the greater Houston area.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
JMS of Houston is a janitorial management service company. We took the name and focused on just that, management of the services we promise to provide to our customers. We not only provide janitorial cleaning daily and nightly for our customers, but we focus more of our resources on the management of our janitorial services and be proactive with our customers. In the beginning, I developed a simple but effective janitorial management system to oversee and create a way to stay ahead of any challenges that may occur from time to time, I call it Management First Cleaning Systems (MFCS), This system has allowed our company to see great growth year after year and has allowed us to be selective with the customers that we provide services. As a service driven company, we are most proud of our company’s integrity. We never over promise and we do whatever we must to deliver what we have promised to our customers that we would. Our dedication to the management of our services is what sets us apart from everyone else. We do not just throw a team in a building and hope that all goes well. By setting up realistic goals with our customers and training our teams properly, we set our customers and JMS up for long term success.

Also, JMS is family owned and operated. I oversee everything in the company and my wife helps with the creative part of the company. She actually designed the logo for JMS. My daughter cleans our office 2 times a week and files as needed. My younger sister, Danielle, is our Senior Sales and Operations Manager. Other team members quickly become part of the family!

What were you like growing up?
I come from a family where my dad was a shift worker and my mom took care of my sister and I. We had a loving home and clothes and food on the table, but times weren’t always easy. My parents couldn’t afford to buy me a car, or put me through college, so that was all on me.

I was goal oriented. I wanted to succeed and be the best at whatever I was doing. Cleaning was also a past time of mine. Keeping my room tidy and organized was very important to me. I would spend hours cleaning my room and organizing my toys and clothes. Funny that I married a “messy artist”!

Sports was also a passion of mine. I loved anything athletic and played on every sports team my school offered. This passion has carried over to our daughter. Her passion is racing. She drives an Allison Legacy race car and is sponsored by JMS of Houston! Her dream is to go all the way to NASCAR!

God and my family were very important also. I prided myself on taking care of my little sister.
