Daily Inspiration: Meet Vannesa Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vannesa Garcia.

Hi Vannesa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started about 11 years ago. I’ve always have had a camera tied to my hip, whether it was disposable or a digital camera. But once my oldest daughter was born, I bought my first DSLR to capture every moment I could. I would upload the images, and that’s when it started; people would ask me to do theirs portraits! I started as a part-time side thing. About 5 years ago, I got more serious and more consistent. Once covid hit, I thought it’s now or never, so I got my very own studio, and it’s been a whirlwind ever since.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Of course not. As a freelance or appointment base, there are slow spells or artist block, but we gotta keep pushing. I wish I could say It was smooth sailing, but more the business side is where the difficulties set in. My clients have always been amazing and so understanding if there happened to be hiccups.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer who specializes in outdoor and newborn sessions! I am most known for my golden hour outdoor portraits and also, my newborn sessions. I am most proud of how far I have come in my studio sessions. Unfortunately, working for yourself means you are the investor as well as the creator, editor, etc. So, building the studio equipment has been a lot of work and a lot of time. Now, I am incredibly proud of how far I have come with studio maternity, cake smashes, and newborn sessions from being solely outdoor photographer to now mainly studio. Having the space and inventory/props/lighting has been such a blessing. What I feel sets me aside from others is not treating my clients as just that… a client… I love to make friends with them and create and listen to what they want and make it a magnificent experience and not just a stranger taking your pictures.

What’s next?
Of course, growing is always the plan, but I am pretty content business-wise. Creating wise, of course, I’d love to grow! I always host random sales for my clients, and that money I solely use to invest. Invest in new props, backdrops, gowns, etc. That is where I’d love to grow!

Pricing:

  • Newborn sessions range $400-600
  • Maternity Starting $300
  • Outdoor $380
  • Cake Smashes $390
