Conversations with Tia Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Washington.

Hi Tia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I first started Tene Alure in 2020 during covid. I didn’t make many sales, but I’ve always known I wanted to create a lip-gloss business since I was young. Wearing pink, clear, purple, and many different colors of lip-gloss at a young age. I rebranded in 2022 to what became Tene Alure. I’ve been thriving by creating a website, making a social media platform, and selling at pop up shops.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has definitely been hard, the struggle of gaining customers, gaining a bigger social media platform and gaining sales from my website. I am still faced a few of these struggles, but I’m learning as I go.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an entrepreneur, I have a business called Tene Alure where I sell lip-gloss, lipliners, and lip scrubs. What sets me apart from other is that my lip-gloss and my lip scrubs are homemade perfectly made by me. Seeing something that I made and watching others love the product and want to buy it is what makes me proud.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about the city of Houston is that it’s always a variety of things to do. Houston supports black-owned business in multiple aspects, and it has so much to offer. The least I like about Houston is definitely the traffic.

Pricing:

  • Lipgloss – $8
  • Lip liner- $4
  • Lip Scrub- $2
