Conversations with Alicia Pal-singh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Pal-singh.

Alicia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My love for my son lead me to initially start writing poems about him which later turned into a book. I shared this love with my son before he could even walk. We would visit bookstores, and so many times we would have to search through so many books to find images that reflected him. I decided I would write a story that encouraged him and taught self-love. It’s important to me that my son knows he can be anything he puts his mind and efforts to. Often the world tries to tell our children who they are and not what they can be. My book is for all children who may feel as if they are not good enough.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the only obstacles that I have faced when writing my book was myself. I had to get out of my own way and start believing it was possible; it can seem impossible if you have no experience.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m currently working as a substitute teacher in the North Houston and Humble area. I enjoy sharing my story with all the new children I meet. I love seeing the looks of curiosity when I tell them I’m an author. We talk about the writing process and what it took to get my book published. I love encouraging them as we talk about my book. I’m most proud of my son Montana, he is so kind and ambitious. When I look at him, I see what true love looks like he is all the greatness that I’ve spoken over and into his life.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Being a good person makes me happy. I wake up every day with the mindset that I’m going to encourage someone. As a substitute teacher, I encounter so many children who really just need some encouragement or kind words. I try to be the messenger to our children that we believe in them.
