Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Vineyard.
Hi Jerry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Under Over Fellowship started out with a handful of believers that decided to do church unattractionally. No frills, no comfort, and no air conditioning. The inaugural service was held on March 20, 2011, in Heritage Park in downtown Conroe. The church started out with a small trailer, 100 folding chairs, an Igloo cooler, and a desire to reach the homeless and marginalized in our community. The Lord showed up that first Sunday and has grown us as a church in many ways!
The Lord has grown the little church in the park over the last few years in size and vision. In 2017 Jesus gave us a facility to house the growing ministry of Under Over Fellowship. We now had a permanent home to serve as a launching point for the gospel ministry that the Lord has called us to. It was the old Southside Baptist Church at 600 South Frazier in Conroe, but we just call it “600.” We still meet in the park every Sunday and continue to pray that the Lord will help us reach Conroe and the world with the gospel.
We are headed wherever Jesus is headed. We know that He has created the local church as the vehicle to reach every tribe, tongue, and nation with the gospel. So, we as a part of Under Over Fellowship are excited to be included in the Lord’s plan here in Conroe, TX as well as the uttermost parts of the world. We are ready Jesus. Send us.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been easy. Planting a church is hard work regardless of which model it aligns with, but the unattractional (a term I coined) church model has its own set of difficulties. The most obvious is having services outside in Texas. We say that Under Over is the kind of church that you need a shower after service instead of before. Other struggles come from the types of ministries that God has called UOF to serve in. The prostitution, mental illness, and drug addiction that we see on a daily basis in our rescue mission, 6-month residential program, and medical clinic is a constant reminder of the broken world that we live in. However, the Lord is faithful and has given us grace and a huge learning curve as we have tried to show those in need the love of Christ through the preaching of the gospel partnered with the meeting of physical need.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I hope others would say about Under Over Fellowship is threefold: We preach Christ. We love deeply. We work hard. As far as answering the question, “What are you most proud of?” I am just grateful that the Lord has allowed me to be a part of this beautiful church.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Jesus is our only hope, and that He is better than anything that this world has to offer!!!
