Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Jones.
Hi Todd, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Two years ago I started taking lesson at Houston kiteboarding and just really enjoy it, started riding all the time. So I decided to start a club and talk to everyone about joining and try to find a good location. In July of 2022 found the owners of a 9 acres lot and was able to get it for the club. I have been working almost every day on the club site making it a little better every week.
I talked to Phil Midler the owner of a Houston kiteboarding shop in Texas City and convinced him to move his lesson out on the club site. We have an onsite store and rentals, and we teach kiteboarding, wing foiling, and kite foiling.
And we offer tanker foiling and e-foiling. We are trying to grow our club and invite anyone to come out. I have always loved the water and enjoyed riding almost every day at the young age of 63. Our Instagram is @houstonkiteboardclub take a look and see what you think, come out and we will give you a lesson.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been rough, right after getting the land we had tons of rain while I was trying to put the road in, get the fields cut, and work on the entrance and exit to the water. It was just a lot of fun.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My background is in trucking and warehouse for 35 years, and lawn and commercial cutting for 10 years. Home building and rentals, and a few other things.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Two types of risk in life.
Self. As in things you do in life, I hang glide, fly small planes, skydive, base jump, ride motorcycles on streets and dirt, scuba dive, surf, kiteboard, ride horses and bulls, and rock climb.
Financial. I have been self-employed almost all my life so every business I have done including the kite beach is a risk, the question is do you believe in what you’re doing? If yes then you looked at all the angles what works and what could go wrong.
