Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Espinoza.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started OneSpeedCo in 2020 during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The world had stopped and there wasn’t much to do. I have always been a busy person. I couldn’t just sit around and not do anything and started getting back into doing things I loved. fashion is one of them. I used to ride bikes when I was young with my neighborhood friends and remember not having all the cool BMX gear because it was an expensive sport.
That’s when I came up with the concept of making a BMX-inspired brand. BMX didn’t have a staple brand that really represents bikers and I wanted to be the one that created that avenue. Something that gave you that feeling of belonging without being too expensive, allowing anyone to be able to have a piece. I also started building bikes for VIP clients like Larry June (artist), Frank Clark (football player), Chase and Cash (artist), and more. I have also had a chance to work with BMX athletes on current and future collaborations.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been easy. I had to learn a lot from the financial aspect of the business. When starting something new that you have never done before you will always have bumps in the road the thing is how you will handle things when you’re under pressure and feel like you have hit a wall.
You can either give up or pull yourself forward. I would say working with others will always be the hardest thing to do everyone works in different ways. I learned to be as clear and upfront with what my expectations are as well as theirs in order to make a collaboration work as smoothly as possible.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner and creative director for onespeedco. I am known for my clothing brand but also for creating one-of-one BMX bikes. I am most proud of being able to do what I love and create art in my own way. Being able to work with the most amazing creative people I know. I have an amazing team I have been blessed to be able to work with family which at times can be hard.
I feel what sets my brand apart from others is that I strive to make onespeed more than just a clothing brand but more of a community, when you wear onespeed know we consider you part of our family, and this is why we print (we represent a BMX family bigger than your ego) in our inner shirt tags.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I listen to Premium petes show, and unclicked Dennis Enarson for BMX content. One of my favorite books is 48 Laws of Power by Robert Green & Thich Nhat Hanh “The Miracle of Mindfulness.”
