Check Out Seida Abate’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Seida Abate.

Hi Seida, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Seida and I am a first-generation Ethiopian American. Growing up first Gen American I began to realize the undeniable strength and resilience that immigrants like my parents possess. They had left everything they knew behind to come to a new country, and they were determined to make a better life for themselves and their families. It wasn’t always easy, but watching my parents work so hard inspired me to do the same.

And as I navigated the Western culture and found my own place in this new world, I never forgot the sacrifices my family had made to get here. Today, I am a mother of an incredible little girl and I plan to instill in her the same values and passion for life that my parents have instilled in me. I have always had a love for fragrance and the science behind curating personal scents. Fragrance to me is a connection to some of our sweetest and dearest memories in life.

This inspired me to start an eco-luxury handcrafted fragrance and home decor company called Njolie & Co. We prioritize sustainability by using non-toxic wax alongside biodegradable, recyclable, and reusable products down to the packaging. We also plant a tree with every purchase to help the planet so that others may contribute to a good cause around the globe.

It’s been 8 months and counting and the journey thus far has been full of excitement, bustling ideas, partnerships, and a lot of hard work. I hope to continue the momentum and harness the resilience and consistency exemplified by my parents to grow Njolie into an environmentally responsible company. One that provides timeless, luxury candles and home decor items that make you smell and feel good.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the hardest part of starting Njolie & Co. was really just starting. If you are anything like me and you have a million ideas bouncing around in your head, you find it difficult to hone in on what really aligns with you and then also bring that vision to life. I dedicated 7 long months of testing to find the best quality and curate the perfect scents before launching.

Testing never ceases to this day but I would say the struggles I have come across is maintaining consistency. For now, I am a one-woman show so all of the products are hand-poured, cleaned, labeled packaged, and brand managed by me. My goal for 2023 is to be more consistent all around.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Professionally, I have a background in hospitality which is all about creating a memorable experience for customers.

I believe that sets me apart from others as hospitality professionals are required to pay attention to detail and have a strong focus on quality. I have loved carrying these skills into my business and aim to enhance the atmosphere or space by creating a unique and delightful sensory experience for everyone to enjoy.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
These days I find myself referencing back to some amazing books such as Atomic Habits, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and What Got You Here Won’t Get You There.
