Today we’d like to introduce you to Heavenly Waters.
Hi Heavenly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I’ve always loved to sing. My family would constantly ask me to sing for them as well as for random people. Unfortunately, I had the worst stage fright. I began to dislike others knowing that I knew how to sing simply because I was afraid that they’d actually ask me to do it. Once I got into Prairie View A&M University, I made it my mission to open up. During freshman year, I made a Twitter and posted myself singing. I received so much positivity and people encouraged me to start posting more singing videos. I also received a lot of requests to start making music. Posting myself singing helped me to meet so many other people on campus that made music and were interested in collaborating. One of my peers ended up telling me about an organization called Triple P and their weekly open mic nights. I quickly fell in love with the organization but had yet to actually perform. One day I finally grew the courage to perform and continued from then on. Being a part of Triple P and so many creatively talented people inspired me to break out of my shell. Since then, I’ve released multiple singles and an EP called “Variety”. I am currently working on releasing my 2nd EP, which I am really excited about. Singing and creating music is an outlet for me and increases my creativity every day. Singing has always been something that I’ve enjoyed doing, but it is now a genuine passion.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, I’d say that it hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve struggled with self-confidence and pushing myself to step outside of my comfort zone. It has not been easy in the slightest and I still struggle to this day. A part of stepping outside of my comfort zone was being bold enough to promote myself and my music without shame. There are people that have attempted to embarrass me for promoting myself, and I’d be lying if I said that it’s never gotten to me. It’s challenging to put yourself out there and not think of what others may say. Luckily, I’ve grown in my self-confidence and have learned that there will always be people with negative things to say. It’s up to me if I’m going to allow it to affect me or not. I struggled with speaking my mind for the longest, and it affected my creativity. Promoting yourself and actually reaching people can get stressful, so I’m learning to be patient. I constantly remind myself to let supporters come at whatever pace is necessary. Though I have setbacks at times, I no longer limit myself and I’ve stopped caring about the opinions of others. Life is too short to not be lived.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter that makes neo-soul and R&B music. I don’t limit myself when I make music. I love to get creative and think of scenarios from all perspectives when I write. I want people to listen to my music and be inspired. I am most proud of the fact that people listen to my music and feel a variety of emotions. Creating music means so much to me, so to be able to share it with the world really pulls at my heartstrings. The fact that I make music for those that are in love, sad, lonely, happy, etc… sets me apart from others. I want my music to be a part of a movement that’s greater than me. I don’t want my music to be something that makes you feel lower when you’re already down. To be quite honest, there’s enough music like that that already exists.
Alright, so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can support me by streaming, sharing, and reposting my music. I also appreciate when people simply give me feedback because, truth be told, I’m still learning. To work with and collaborate with me people can reach out to me on my social media accounts. I’d love to collaborate with other artists and all types of creatives! There is such a large community of people that create music and art in some form. That community understands the challenges that come with putting yourself out there and seeking support. Coming together and helping each other could enable us to reach more people overall and share our gifts.
