Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Ruiz Gonzalez.
Hi Erika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After having my first baby in the fall of 2016, I was steadfast in finding my identity outside of motherhood. I am a yoga teacher by trade and a former primary educator. I also have always loved writing and creating beautiful visual stories. I wanted to find a way to merge my passions, so I began sharing creative movement and mindfulness activities for kids on my social media platforms. My goal was to share my knowledge with other moms and help them implement easy yet impactful exercises with their children.
Fast forward to today, as a mom of four boys under six, I try to be transparent and relate with other moms about everything from my day-to-day to my struggles and all the tips and tricks in between. I talk about the things that make my life easier as a mom, the humor in this roller coaster called #momlife, and even all the comfy and practical clothing that helps me look cute while doing it all.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not gonna lie; my life is chaos! I think working from home with young kids is challenging. Every day is completely different from the next, and with 4 boys under 6, I’m constantly starting and stopping, which makes work pretty inefficient at times. It also means that more than likely, I’ll be awake late at night trying to play catchup. The days are long, but I truly love my new business, as well as sharing my motherhood journey and mindfulness activities on social media (which also takes a lot of time and planning).
My new business and social media account has taken a lot more of my time than I expected, so we are all adjusting to a new normal. But pouring myself into new ideas, connecting with other moms, partnering with other creatives, and learning about how to be a more conscious, connected mother make me feel very fulfilled!
Without a doubt, finding that work/life balance is the biggest challenge. The juggle is real!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Aside from my family, these days, I am pouring myself into my business, Rumer Creative, and my Instagram social media account.
Rumer Creative is a full-service photography, content creation, and social media management agency that my sister-in-law and I founded together last year. We work with a wide variety of clients on different social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Twitter, RStyle, Facebook, Etsy, LinkedIn, and so on. I LOVE working with different brands and having a space to be creative in so many different ways!
My Instagram social media account @erikaruizglz is a space where I enjoy sharing my knowledge with other moms and connecting with like-minded parents. I like talking about the things that make my life easier as a mom, cute mom fashion, my day-to-day struggles, tips, and tricks that help me survive the long days, and just a bit of sprinkled humor about this roller coaster called #momlife. As a yoga instructor and former primary educator, my favorite thing is sharing mindfulness activities for kids and ways to become a more mindful parent.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I can actually be quite introverted when introduced to new people and social situations. I tend to live in my head a lot and can sometimes feel self-conscious and experience a lot of self-doubt (imposter syndrome, anyone?). There are days when I just have to “fake it till I make it” — thankfully, my husband is really good and helping me get out of my head and step back into my confidence.
