Today we’d like to introduce you to Imran Khan.
Hi Imran, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Started my journey by learning more about functional medicine while I was practicing traditional primary care. I started incorporating concepts into my daily practice and found that my patients really enjoyed it. Then I struggled how to bring in the more advanced functional medicine concepts into an insurance-based practice and eventually came to the conclusion that the two worlds weren’t ever designed to work well together. I decided to go towards a cash-based clinic that opens the playing field away from health networks. The Covid pandemic hit, and there was an overnight explosion of need for telemedicine. I have been very involved in Covid treatments given that I was a primary care doctor, and there was a never-ending demand from patients. I decided to open sometime in my functional medicine clinic, and there was immediate traction in my local community and beyond. After the Covid fear, I began to focus my attention the full range of Functional Medicine and truly begin Internal Healing and Wellness MD.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve never started a business before, but it’s almost like you hatch this idea, and this cute little thing comes out, and you have to give it time and attention, and energy. And this is a cute phase, but as soon as the company behinds to grow it grabs a hold of you, and you feel you are stuck in a tight vortex of ever-increasing demends. It forced me to quickly see where my skills are lacking and assess what I need to do or who needs to do it. Effectively, starting a clinic has been a constant learning process. I also have a young family and I am very mindful of how much time I am investing into my practice. Learning balance is an art which is probably a lifelong process.
We’ve been impressed with Internal Healing and Welllness MD, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
A cash-based functional medicine clinic. We have a location in the Woodlands and also offer virtual consultation. We have a background in traditional allopathic medicine (MD) and have additional training in Functional Medicine (IFMCP). / I am known for really listening to my patient’s needs and being empathetic. / Our goal is to deliver maximal benefits and minimal costs. My challenge is how to bring functional medicine to the masses? I am proud of often achieving great results with natural options. We provide consultative services, and our functional medicine tests are very detailed and can look at saliva, blood, urine, and stool. Patients are often amazed that Functional medicine cares about spanning many domains of your life, from stress to health, to social considerations, to emotional well-being, history of trauma, mindfulness, and many others.
