Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherie Clark-Moore.
Cherie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I moved to the States 8.5 years ago with family, I was really struggling – physically, emotionally, mentally. I was a mom of twin toddlers, and I was completely exhausted and strung out. I had been diagnosed with depression and was on medication and although it helped to a certain extent, it was not how I wanted to continue in my life. I knew there had to be a better way to manage my health.
I had done yoga in various countries we had lived in before moving here, and I had enjoyed it and felt benefit so I began looking for classes. Actually, I ran into Maureen who ran the (now closed) Woodlands location of Body & Brain at the Grogan’s Mill Farmer’s market. She invited me to do an intro session at the center, and from the moment I walked in, I knew this was something different from my previous experiences with this type of mind-body practice.
As I was stepped through various check-ups, I learned more about my condition and how my physical health related to my mental health. This felt really empowering… and daunting!… but I took a class, and I was hooked. The meditation exercises were the game changer for me and helped me understand that I actually had control over my brain, not my brain in control of me. It took consistent practice and support from the instructors, but within 3 months I was off medication and felt I had tools and support to help me navigate any challenges.
My condition improved dramatically. My digestion, sleep, mindset, hormones, flexibility, concentration, and more had significantly changed for the better. This is when I knew everyone needed these tools to take back control of their health and happiness.
I took many trainings, became a Master of the practice and in 2017 opened my own Body & Brain location on FM 1488. Since then, I have been blessed to help many others heal and grow. I kept investing in my training and added Tai Chi/ Qigong to the class offerings along with yoga, meditation, breathwork, and energy healing.
Part of my mission is to share these tools and practices as widely as possible. I work a lot in the community – within the school districts with teachers, counselors. With nurses at our local hospitals and with seniors in our senior care facilities. I get so much back from being out in the community – I feel very fortunate to do what I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the hardest thing about this work is usually you are not meeting people when they are at their best. Whether it’s challenges with their health, stressful situations in their lives or with their families, many people come looking for help. You can’t help but feel empathy for people and feel a desire to help as much as you can. I learned, sometimes the hard way, that as much as I help, I have to take care of myself. Through the years of this work, I learned how to not take other people’s circumstances on and how to recharge and refresh myself quickly so I can continue to help as many people as I can.
Another challenge that I think a lot of entrepreneurs face is that they started their business because they are passionate about what they do. They want to provide their skills or services to the community but creating and running a business requires so many skill sets, and there is a steep learning curve when you begin. It takes a lot of courage and will to keep moving through the inevitable challenges that arise as a new business owner. I learned quickly to outsource and ask for help when I needed it. I don’t have to do everything, and although there is obviously a financial outlay to support services, they are invaluable to allow you to focus on your core talent.
When you run your own business and have a family, there is always a sense of conflict – too much time away from home, not enough focus on the business. Through the years I’ve learned you can only do the best you can do in the moment and everything ebbs and flows – it will be ok.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Body & Brain Yoga Tai Chi?
Body & Brain Yoga Tai Chi provides a welcoming and supportive environment that is unique. We are such a small team, and I am usually the person people see at the front desk, teaching the classes, doing the energy healings, out in the community, and cleaning the floors. When people come to Body & Brain, they feel like they are home. We get to know each member well and help them not only in class but also with exercises and information they can use at home and in integrate their life. I believe you can’t just rely on coming to a class if you want to make changes in your life. You have to be willing and courageous to make changes WHILE you live your life.
We offer group classes and private session in yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, breathwork, meditation, and energy healing. Some of the other services we provide are Aura readings, Chakra reading, and healing as well as many products to supports healing, learning, and growth.
Being part of Body & Brain, a national leader in health and healing, we have access to retreats, programs, workshops, other trainers and Masters that can help people to grow and reach their goals and dreams.
What are your plans for the future?
My dream is to open a bigger location to provide more and varied services to the community. I have plans to create a hub for health, happiness, and peace in the area. I hope that many people can find a sense of community and support to help them on their journey. We’re always better together!
