Hi Melissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I have always known I wanted to have my own business. I remember a school project in 6th grade that had us create our own business model. Nothing ever spoke to me as that assignment did. It was exciting to me to take something from my mind, build it from scratch, and see it come to life! Never did I imagine the business I would settle on was having a Skin Treatment Clinic.
I was initially introduced to the beauty world by my mom’s friend, Coolie, who did the most beautiful lash extensions I have ever seen! Watching her build her clientele while still working as a teacher inspired me to go for it. So, in 2014, I took a leap of faith, enrolled in the Xtreme Lash course, and fell in love!
In the same year, I moved to Houston with the goal of stepping fully into entrepreneurship. I had never heard of an esthetician until 2017 when a co-worker mentioned to me that she thought I should try it. But it wasn’t until 2018 that I decided to fully step out on faith and left my healthcare career to pursue this new world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
You know, I wish I could say it was smooth sailing! However, anything that is valuable is worth the effort it takes to achieve it. Here I am with all the medical and esthetic licenses; you would think I’d be a sure hire for a spa…nope.
After 22 interviews…and 22 rejections from potential employers, I can admit I felt a bit deflated. But being able to pivot is key. So, I figured “Sky Daddy” was giving me the kick in the pants to act on what I set out to be in this new town I had moved to.
I opened up a brick-and-mortar exactly one week before the COVID-19 shutdown. Starting a small business is never easy, and it’s especially challenging when you’re a one-woman show. There is a learning curve to being a business owner as-is; the fact that I was the only business owner with a physical location that I knew only added to it. There was no one to warn me that the backend of starting a business can feel so overwhelming.
If you’re thinking about starting your own business, be prepared for a challenge. That is how I know I have found my “thing” because the journey of entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone but my perseverance has shown me I am built for it! My focus now is finding more like-minded people, which I know is part of the process.

As part of my comprehensive approach, I offer customized meal plans that prioritize gut health, complementing the homecare plan I provide. This fusion of inner and outer care is precisely why I have chosen to partner with DMK and Skinaid, both of which are brands carried by Melure. These brands align perfectly with my vision of working with skincare beyond superficial treatments, allowing me to delve deeper into enhancing overall skin health.
I am most proud of the journey of personal transformation I have undergone and the resilience I have had to find in overcoming significant hurdles. It has been a transformative process that has demanded immense self-reflection, self-discipline, and the courage to step outside of my comfort zone. I have embraced the growth mindset which allows me to turn setbacks into opportunities. Moving ahead, my aspiration is to be a constructive influence on the lives of others, irrespective of the clients I serve or the future estheticians who follow in my footsteps…I am excited to continue this path of growth and make even greater contributions to the beauty industry in the future.
My relentless determination and resilience set me apart. I am not one to shy away from challenges or setbacks. Instead, I view them as opportunities for growth and use them as fuel to push myself further. I am committed to delivering high-quality work and surpassing expectations, no matter the obstacles in my path.
What makes you happy?
I find my greatest happiness when I engage in work that aligns with my passions. Being in an industry that is constantly evolving, I thrive on the exhilarating feeling of being challenged and constantly learning. Collaborating with like-minded individuals who share my values and have a genuine commitment to making a positive impact in the world brings me immense joy.
Nothing compares to the happiness I experience when I utilize my skills and talents to assist others. It is in those moments that I feel a deep sense of fulfillment. The essence of my objective is to serve as a catalyst for transformative change in people’s lives, harnessing the power of the skin journey as a medium.
Yet, what truly brings me unbridled joy is the profound influence of human connection. The ability to create meaningful bonds and leave a positive mark on someone’s life is an experience beyond words. It could be through heartfelt conversations, lending a helping hand, or even a simple smile. These connections have a remarkable ability to transcend barriers and foster unity and understanding.
To witness the transformative impact of how my customized treatments can boost a client’s confidence and self-esteem fills my heart with immense happiness. Moments like this remind me of the beauty of contributing to something greater than myself and the need to continue in my path of building this beautiful life.
