Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolette Rivera.
Hi Nicolette, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I always had a passion for makeup; I would sit and practice in front of a mirror for hours on end. I then started to venture out and would practice on family and friends. I wanted to familiarize myself with different skin textures and skin tones. In 2011 I applied for a M•A•C position, and the rest was history. I learned so much from other artist; I traveled with the company and met so many amazing clients who I still call friends today. I left the company in 2017, my grandmother was battling cancer, and time with her was extremely limited. After we lost her, I took a break from work and focused more on my children, and became a stay-at-home mom for a couple of years. In 2019 my daughter and I started doing TikTok videos together, and surprisingly that took off to a great start. I would go down a rabbit hole and just watch so many makeup videos on TikTok. That lit a spark in me that I once had, and at that I moment, I remembered my purpose. I’m not just a wife and a mom. I’m an artist, and for a minute, I forgot who I was. Thanks to my supportive husband, we jumped-kicked my business, and “NicoletteGlam” was born. Today I stay pretty busy with glamming beautiful faces. I have the luxury of making my own schedule because I work for No One but myself! That was always a dream of mine. Being a small business owner is definitely no joke. You have to constantly hustle and have that fire in you to keep going. I thank God every day for the blessings I have.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not; rebuilding my clientele all over again was a struggle. There’s so many makeup artist today, but there’s only one of “YOU.”
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a MUA I’ve been an artist for 12 yrs. now and I specialize in bridal makeup. I would like to think I’m known for my charisma and creativity. I’m mostly known for that “mom they see on TikTok with the crazy daughter,” haha. I’m mostly proud of my ambition, pulling myself together, and chasing my dream. Never thought I would be running my own business today. What sets me apart from others? There’s millions of MUA but only one of ME! Every client who’s ever sat in my chair will get the same royal treatment. My expectations are extremely high. Customer satisfaction is my number one priority.
What’s next?
I like to reach baby goals first. Once I accomplish that, then the bigger ones will follow. For now, I want to enjoy what I’m building. The sky is the limit, and I’ve learned to keep my planning and changes to myself. We shall see…
