Rising Stars: Meet Jesus Morales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesus Morales.

Hi Jesus, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I originally got started with photography as a way to help deal with my anxiety. When I was getting out of the military, I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and needed a way to help me get out of my comfort zone. This issue caused me to became somewhat antisocial, and I wanted to find a way to fix it. I decided to give street photography a try because I knew that it would force me to come out of my comfort zone and put myself in situations where I had to interact with people in one way or another.

While doing street photography, I always found myself taking photos of cars and decided that maybe it was time to change what I took photos of. As I started attending car meets and car shows, I found myself taking photos of also people with cars. That is how I started to incorporate and get more comfortable taking photos of models with cars.

It took some time to start having my work get noticed, but it was worth the wait. I have been lucky to work and collaborate with some amazing people during this journey. Now my main area of focus is automotive and portrait photography. I enjoy photographing custom-built cars, lowriders, and models.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like anything else in life, there were always obstacles and challenges. Jumping in head first into a field that is so highly saturated was hard. There were times when I thought about stopping. The support of friends and my wife is what kept me going. Their feedback on my work is what really pushed me to keep learning and improving my skills.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
If I had to narrow down what I specialize in, I would say both automotive and portrait photography. If from those, I had to pick one for what I’m known for, it would have to be of taking photographs of models with cars.

The thing that I am most proud of would have to be the fact that I was able to find an outlet that helped me deal with my anxiety while at the same time helping people feel comfortable about themselves and allowing them to express themselves artistically through my work.

To be honest, I’m not sure what sets me apart from other. As photographers, we all love what we do. I enjoy taking photos and truly love seeing the reaction in people’s faces when they see the finished product.

What are your plans for the future?
There are many plans for the future; one of them would definitely be owning a studio and being able to travel doing what I love.
