Today we’d like to introduce you to John Henry. They and their team shared their story with us below:
John began experimenting with fermentation, sauerkraut specifically, during the pandemic.
We really enjoyed the first couple batches he made and decided that the three of us should try our hands at selling some at the local farmers’ markets. Thus, Henry Family Homestead was born!
We debuted at the Cane Island Christmas Market last year and soon found that there was a niche for our product, and things have taken off from there.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been fairly smooth so far. Our biggest challenge so far was actually selling completely out of everything at GermanFest Tomball in the Spring.
Since our product is made in the old-world style, it has a six-week lead time, which left us scrambling to get inventory made to catching back up with ourselves.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Henry Family Homestead?
Our business, Henry Family Homestead, is a cottage business Sauerkraut manufacturer and retailer. We have aspirations of branching out into other fermentations and classically preserved foods.
What sets us apart from others is that authenticity and quality are our highest priorities. Every batch of our sauerkraut is hand shredded, hand-tamped into stoneware crocks, fermented for six weeks at sixty-eight degrees, and jarred by hand for retail sale…
As a brand, we are most proud of our signature crunch! You will not find another sauerkraut as flavorful or crunchy as ours!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
