Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiera Duffie.
Hi Kiera, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I would love to! I started off as a Sports Administration major at the University of Houston. Once I graduated in 2017, I did a brief internship with the Houston Texans in business operations. While I gained invaluable experience and enjoyed the game day festivities, I knew I had more to offer the world.
In the meantime, I knew the bills weren’t going to pay themselves so that’s when I decided to utilize my associate degree in Process Technology and work in operations in the refinery. This allowed me to become a homeowner at 23, purchase my dream car at 25 (corvette), and live a comfortable life… but again I knew I was destined for more. I didn’t want to work in such a harsh environment my whole life.
So, this is when I sat down and brainstormed. I thought about my best attributes, things I was passionate about, and what I could really excel in. Meanwhile, I would go home and watch HGTV all day and night. My favorite shows were House Hunters, Flip or Flop, and the Property Brothers. That’s when the idea of getting into real estate popped into my head. I figured I could do it too. I worked in sales throughout college, so I knew it would come naturally. Plus, I knew I would enjoy helping families find their dream home or assist them in selling their old one.
So, at the beginning of 2022, I officially became a licensed real estate agent in the state of Texas, and as they would say, the rest is history. I’m currently with Keller Williams Metropolitan. I’m also a part of their Sports and Entertainment division so that came full circle. I’m slowing perfecting my craft. Not only am I striving to be one of the top agents in Houston, but I want to build my investment portfolio and truly make a difference in my community. I want to be a real estate mogul!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not always been a smooth one. Starting off as a new real estate agent was extremely challenging. Especially in a city where there are a million realtors to choose from. I was really struggling to differentiate myself so that I could generate business. It took me forever to close my first deal, and that was a lease. That really messed with my confidence, and I went through a bout of depression where I wouldn’t do any real estate business at all.
However, one day I remembered my “why.” I remembered my visions for the future. I wanted to build generational wealth for my future family. I wanted to give back and create more opportunities within my community. I remembered my purpose and got back to work. A month later, I experienced my first closing! I’ve been putting in the necessary work ever since.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a real estate agent servicing Houston and surrounding areas. I specialize in Residential sales and leasing as well as investments.
I’m just proud that I’ve overcame my challenges and became the “one to watch” among my peers.
What sets me apart from other agents is my work ethic and my dedication to my clients. I am always working to expand my knowledge and gain expertise so that I can better serve my clients.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My favorite thing about our city is the food and hospitality. There’s nothing like it. I also enjoy the music culture. We have so many talented artists in Houston and surrounding areas.
I absolutely dislike the traffic. It’s takes forty-five minutes to go 10 miles up the street, haha
