Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Greer.
Hi Andrew, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started this project in late 2018 to early 2019. I wanted to start a hardcore band; somehow, I went and made synth-heavy music. I bought my first synths, an AKAI Timbrewolf and a Korg Monologue. Honestly, choosing those as my first synths made creating synth music a challenge. The AKAI Timbrewolf doesn’t save patches or sounds, and the Korg Monologue is only able to play one note at a time. At first, I was only making instrumental songs. Then I made songs with vocals. In 2021 I released my first EP, then a handful of singles. All of those songs are available on a compilation album called “The First Recordings.” Now I am working on my second EP, trying to play as many shows as possible to promote the record.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish this had been a smooth road. Up until recently, I used a 10-year-old computer that would crash almost every time I tried to record. Sometimes a show has a low turnout. Driving to shows across the state wears you out. Heck, even writer’s block happens now and again. But this is the best project I’ve ever done. Every obstacle I face seems worth it.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud of the work I’ve done toward Breaker HTX. I’ve been a member of other local bands but have found the most creative freedom in this project. Breaker HTX is a DIY band, and my partner and I make all of the visual art associated with it as well. This includes burning and handmaking CDs and cases, creating vinyl record covers, etc. I am always happy to show off our work.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Let yourself be open to constructive criticism. Everyone has something that you can learn from them. And do not be afraid to ask questions.
