Meet Shan Kemp

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Shan Kemp. Shan was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Padon Suber.

Shan, can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
One of the hardest questions I ever had to deal with was, “What do you want to do with your life?” I was 17, almost done with high school, and I had absolutely no clue. With no clear direction, I felt the weight of panic settle in as childhood faded behind me. My parents had a single rule: “You’re going to do something.” So, I embraced my fast-food job, moved into an apartment, only to realize that this wasn’t my calling. Amid this uncertainty, I found solace in teaching myself how to write a screenplay. Characters and stories poured onto the pages, and when I typed “Fade Out,” I cradled my creation—a representation of my dreams.

But the script alone wasn’t enough. I longed to see my story come to life on screen. Researching production and colleges led me to apply to film programs. College welcomed me with open arms, along with my screenplay and aspirations. Classes and projects brought purpose and clarity. In the realm of filmmaking, I discovered an affinity for video editing—a storytelling medium that seemed more attainable as a career path.
Post-graduation, I returned to a cycle of unfulfilling jobs and self-discovery. Venturing into freelance editing, I acquired a plethora of new skills and eventually birthed “Screen Goat Video.”

So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Padon Suber and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Padon.
Working with Padon turned out to be one of my better decisions. With all good videos the sound and music can break you if it’s nonexistent. I linked up with Padon to produce a couple of tracks for my feature film, Lessons. I had written some of songs but was having a hard time finding instrumentals to match. My next best option was to get the beats customized and by me recently relocating to Texas, by way of Atlanta, I didn’t know anyone. Fast forward – I met Padon through a mutual friend and the rest was history.

He was very professional, knowledgeable in his area, and patient as I don’t have a music background and don’t know the professional jargon. Our workflow was seamless. We got in the studio and just vibed. He even introduced me to a local singer to add her vocals to my song.

The most impressive thing about Padon is that he is a true musician, He actually plays multiple instruments which is what I think aids him in creating music so effortlessly for others.
