Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Howard.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was always a fan of photography and film, so I enjoyed photography and video recording as a hobby. I always used point-and-shoot cameras, and after seeing how passionate I was my wife decided to surprise me with my first “real” camera, a Canon DSLR for Christmas. This just threw gas on the fire and led me on a shooting spree! I almost never left home without that camera and shot any and everything, especially when we traveled. I would photograph people, plants, insects, food, buildings, landscapes – you name it. I began doing portrait photo shoots for family and friends, and soon after, people began requesting my photography for paid professional work. As those requests increased, I decided to go all in and purchase a professional DSLR, lighting, computer, editing software – the works, and formally create “Darryl Howard Photography” in 2011. As my work improved, my client list grew to include churches, nonprofit organizations, and corporate businesses. This led to my work being featured in various newspapers, magazine articles, and online publications. My photography business expanded its services to include event photography and Photo Booth Fun. My business has since evolved into “Darryl Howard Digital Media,” where I now produce and create video content such as corporate, event, concert, and documentary films.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
To say the least, it hasn’t been smooth at all. The biggest challenge may be having to constantly operate simultaneously as both an artist and business owner, which don’t always move in tandem with one another. The artist side of you just wants to create something special and have fun doing it, while the business owner in you just wants to be paid for the work you’ve done and maintain a steady income. Although it’s been difficult, it hasn’t been overwhelming, simply because I love what I do.

Darryl Howard Digital Media is a full-service solution for those in need of marketing and promotional/informational content creation. Providing Photography, Video Production, including aerial photography/videography and Graphic Design service for individuals, schools, churches, nonprofit organizations, and businesses.
