Today we’d like to introduce you to Godswill Muofhe.
Hi Godswill, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In high school, I was writing funny skits in class and asking my friends to play a part in them. The skits became popular in school, so I decided to turn some of the skits into mini-shows. My most popular show back then was “The Real-World High School”, it was meant to be a lighthearted funny show about the life of stereotypical High school students. We even created a theme song and music video for the show. My sophomore year, I took a video editing class and joined the Theater Club at Westside High School to improve my acting and video editing skills. While in the Theater Club, I was able to build show sets, work with talented actors, and grow as a director.
Sometime during my Freshman year of College, I realized that I did not have enough free time to write my skits anymore, so I decided to channel my creative energy into a Twitter account. I did not expect much, but the account quickly blew up, and within a couple of months, I grew the account to over 40K followers. This was in the early age of social media, where algorithms were not a thing, so 40k followers is the equivalent to 1 million followers on TikTok nowadays or something around that. I knew I was onto something when media outlets started contacting me for interviews over a couple of my tweets that went super viral. Tweets like #TakeHerHoodie and “Let That Mango.” Media outlets like BuzzFeed, The Huffington Post, and Daily Mail. Cosmopolitan even ranked my Let That Mango tweet as the funniest tweet of 2016. But as with all good things, they must come to an end; my Twitter account was permanently suspended in 2018. This forced me to reflect on how I was not able to properly capitalize on all the work I put into growing my social media platform. Which is why I decided to start Citizens of the Internet in 2020.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been extremely challenging and the most fun that I’ve ever had in my life. The company was born during the COVID-19 Pandemic when the entire world was on lockdown, so we were off to a rough start, but one of our mottos is to push boundaries and break limits; we refused to let the lockdown stop us or slow us down. We started producing Comedic Podcasts hosted by me and various guests to share our life experiences and express our opinions on Pop Culture, Art, Fashion, World News, and various other topics.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
Citizens of the Internet is meant to be a spark that triggers the mind, heart, and soul of a person with a dream into action, in addition to being a brand that properly represents our generation. We specialize in Media Production, Custom Apparel Manufacturing, and Live Events. . We take pride in our community that supports and encourages us.
