Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Guillory.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started promoting at 16 years old with my uncle. I got to be around celebrities that I seen on TV at a young age and I knew that one of things I wanted to do when I grew up. At 21 I started promoting on my own and started local TV show called NuSouth TV where I would interview different artist. I had goals of being a host on BET lol. Fast forward a year goes by, and I had my first kid, so I put all those aspirations on hold and went and joined the Air Force. I did 8 years and when I separated, I started managing a Walmart store for 8 years. I end up having 3 heart surgeries that caused me to leave that job, and that’s when I started back doing what I started doing almost 20 years ago, doing what I loved to do, which was promoting events and networking with different cuisines while growing my brand and the business I started which is called Kreativekingzllc and the rest was history.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My business really took off so fast thanks to the covid lockdown, that it was like seeing a roadblock or traffic jam ahead but being able to go around it or over it. So started out real smooth. Once the lockdown ended, everything started opening back up, and I no longer had the only events going on in Houston anymore. So definitely became a struggle at times to maintain my business and brand. I took a year off promoting to start focusing more on behind-the-scenes business and building my brand to be more than a promoting company and building myself as an actual Entrepreneur Business Owner more than just a promoter. So now I do more event business consulting and coordinating for different venues, festivals, concerts, restaurants, etc.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I stated before, I started my business from the ground up and simply a promoter who got lucky and landed a deal with the Grand Tuscany Hotel to hold events and parties during the lockdown when the whole city of Houston was shut down basically. There was a loophole because the events were mostly pool parties outside on private property. So, my brand grew so fast in a matter of months, and I was able to network with some prominent people and businesses during that time.
What sets me apart is that I’m not a promoter, I do promote for businesses, but it’s is part of the consultation and coordinating services that I offer.
Services includes, but not limited to, organizing, planning, staffing, furnishing, promoting, and networking events for venues.
Some of my clients/work 50 Cent Tycoon weekend, Mochafest Houston, Soca Passion, Bottle Fete, and more.
As business continues to grow you will most definitely see me do even bigger things in the future!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I am super introverted; if I’m not working, I’m usually at home in my own world. You won’t really catch me out in nightclubs or anything like that if I’m not working it. You would probably spot me fishing, bowling, walking in the park, or traveling somewhere new. I’m really a hood hippie lol.
