Hi Shantilly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2019, my dad was diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer, and my mom has had health challenges. At the time, I was not actively working within my billing and coding career. Insurance companies gave them the runaround and made them do a lot of what I like to call “playing the waiting game.” | felt powerless and useless! Months went by. I prayed I fasted, and I began to move as God began to speak to me to start my own business. My parents’ battle with the insurance company and spending lots of time in the Clinic have been the driving force to starting my own business venture. People may ask, “What does a staffing company have to do with billing and coding”? Glad you asked! I begin working at Genesis Health and Wellness Clinic & Spa, where Sandra Norris-Deckard, Provider, allowed me the opportunity to practice my medical billing & coding skills at the clinic. I begin to launch out, and others began to gain interest in medical billing & coding. As others inquired about beginning a career, I gained interest in starting a staffing company to help staff the medical field with medical billers and coders to help patients that are in situations like my parents! Furthermore, Great Works Staffing, LLC. Specializes in staffing other industries as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been easy; there were obstacles thrown our way, but with the strength God has given me, the love and dedication put into the business-the obstacles had given us the determination to push through it!
