Hi Mark & Val, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, I’m part of the Family Travel Show, and I’d love to share our story with you. We’re a family of four who decided to leave our comfortable life behind in pursuit of a full-time adventure on the road. It’s not just a journey for us; it’s a way of life.
Our family consists of Mark and Val, alongside our wonderful children, Emmett and Aria. We’ve embraced the nomadic lifestyle, traveling all across America in our trusty RV. Along the way, we’ve become full-time content creators, collaborating with brands and tourism boards to showcase the beauty and wonder of the places we visit.
Our adventure began in the winter of 2020, initially intended as a vacation, but it quickly evolved into a permanent way of life. In the spring of 2021, we took the big step of selling our home, fully committing to the nomadic lifestyle. Since then, we’ve explored both the East and West coasts of America, continually seeking out unique experiences and hidden gems in each destination.
One of our greatest passions is exploring and savoring new and unusual foods. Our taste buds are always on the lookout for the next culinary adventure, making our journey a delicious exploration of diverse cuisines.
We’re equally comfortable in the hustle and bustle of city life as we are in the great outdoors. Whether we’re soaring above the clouds on a mountain hike, trekking through the wilderness, or trying our hand at extreme sports, we’re always up for a challenge. We believe in living life to the fullest, and our journey is a testament to that philosophy.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Financial Stability: Constantly being on the move can strain finances. Fuel, maintenance, and campground fees for the RV, along with the cost of healthcare, education, and general living expenses, can add up quickly.
Limited Living Space: Living in an RV means limited living space with no personal space.
Maintenance and Repairs: RVs require regular maintenance, and we have had issues that had us out of our RV for almost a month.
Work-Life Balance: Balancing work as content creators with the need to enjoy their travels and family time can be challenging. We try our best to spend quality time with the kids.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
While on the road, we manage a remote electronics recycling company that extracts precious metals like gold from e-waste. Mark periodically flies in to oversee its operations. However, the real heart of our journey lies in our social media travel business. We’ve built a vibrant online community with over 1.5 million fans across two channels, where we create engaging content for companies and brands seeking promotion. Our monthly output includes 30 to 50 pieces of content, spanning topics from travel and RV living to exploring unique restaurants and epic adventures. Additionally, we’re actively developing a course to empower other content creators to attain financial freedom through online video production.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
In the world of RV content creation, it’s important to be open to new adventures and travel where the popular creators are headed. We eventually discovered who the biggest creators were and introduced ourselves to them directly. These creators have millions and millions of followers, while we had only a handful at the time.
One valuable piece of advice we can share is to have the courage to approach people. Even at our stage in content creation, we would be delighted if more people approached us to ask how we do what we do. It’s unfortunate that many people are too nervous or feel intimidated to do so, but we’re really approachable and friendly, so don’t be shy!
