Meet DeCarmen Burleson of DeeLight Catering & Party Essentials in West

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeCarmen Burleson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my catering business in June 2012. I loved to cook and entertain with friends and family. I found myself cooking for others when they had a party or special event. I decided that it was time to get paid for my services since it was something I enjoyed doing. Since starting my business, I have blossomed and built a name for myself.

The first couple of years were slow but within the past two years, my business has definitely flourished and grown. I have networked, went sleepless nights, and shortchanged myself to get my business name out there. I pride myself to see all of my hard work and dedication pay off. With the grace of God, my faith, a strong support system, and motivation, I continue to grow and maintain a prosperous business.

Has it been a smooth road?
As with any business, it has not been a smooth road. I have experienced having to charge very little for catering jobs trying to build my brand, have had clients send me through all types of changes, and even had friends and family try to get over on me. There have been times when I have to do jobs alone because people I hired were a no-show or canceled at the last minute. I have learned to have back up plans because, at certain times, it seemed as if nothing was going right.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with DeeLight Catering & Party Essentials – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company started catering only. I loved to cook and create dishes with a twist to make myself stand out. However, there are so many catering companies, I had to become creative and offer services that others didn’t. Therefore, I started offering decorating and event planning along with catering.

My mate, who is an artist and graphic designer, and I combined our businesses to offer even more services, We are a one stop shop company. After establishing my catering company, and combining it with graphic design and art, I still felt as if that wasn’t enough. I then put my brain into overload and came up with the idea to begin vendor shows. With that, I came up with the TrinDee Expo, which is going into its sixth year.

We are currently looking to start a nonprofit organization. I have begun to host parties, baby showers, motivational support groups, and more. As a company, I am most proud that I created a business that offers all needs of my clients and that we go above and beyond to please them and make their events magical. The thing that sets us apart from others is that we are original and create designs that are unique and elegant.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about our city is that it is diverse and that allows my company to work with clients that are from various cultures and walks of life. However, what I least like about our city is that the cost of living causes effects in the clients budget. Although I work with any budget, there are times when it is extremely hard to give a client exactly what they want, due to their finances being scarce.
