Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Jeter.
Hi Ashlee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my business back in 2019. My interests in natural products sparked when I fell ill in 2013. I was diagnosed with a form of myositis, a disease involving chronic muscle inflammation. Since 2013, I’ve been more focused on what I put into and on my body. One of my interests was creating products that wouldn’t adversely affect the body. I did a lot of research and experimenting and created my line of body butters and soaps. It also helped that I have a chemistry background from my chemical engineering degree.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to entrepreneurship has not been smooth. The biggest struggles are finding time to promote and be a vendor at markets. I work full-time as an engineer in the chemicals industry, and the schedule isn’t always your typical Monday through Friday 9 am-5 pm job. I’m also a CrossFit coach at Bayway CrossFit in Baytown, so I keep a pretty full schedule.
We’ve been impressed with Mootsie’s Creations, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mootsie’s Creations is where my inner child comes out. Mootsie is one of my many childhood nicknames. Growing up, I loved to do experiments at home and at school. The main products that I offer and are known for are body (shea) butters and soaps. I take pride in knowing that I use math and science to create safe, natural products for customers. It brings me joy when customers return and tell me how my products have helped them with acne, dry skin, etc. I want people to know that when you shop with me, you are getting products that have ingredients you can pronounce and understand. There’s no hidden chemicals that you have to be concerned with. And my products are safe for children to use as well!
What were you like growing up?
I showed an interest in math and science early on. I also loved to read; you could always find me somewhere curled up with a book. I’d like to think I was well-rounded; I danced, played basketball, and also ran track. I was into everything.
