Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaleel Brown.
Hi Jaleel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I turned 13, I moved from Ohio to Texas, … I grew up in Missouri City (the suburbs.) Most people think the suburbs are boring and sheltered (which is true), but there was always something going on around me where I grew up ..and I wanted to find my own way of journalizing it artistically, so I spent a lot of time in High school doing this with notebooks, camcorders, and tweets that would EVENTUALLY get me in trouble
but during my sophomore year, I stopped playing basketball and began spending every day after school in my room writing, recording and filming songs with my friends who could rap and sing WAY better than I could. We formed a music group, and it gradually became a sport, hobby, and passion wrapped in some very questionable 2010 outfits
By the end of high school, I had so many people running in and out of my parents’ house that it became the training grounds for me to start my music career before realizing how seriously I wanted to take it.
Recording, producing, and engineering under the Alias Chief Aleel for the past 10 years has felt like taking care of an egoistical plant that’s been growing slowly in my head that will never stop as long as I love it
I’ve been blessed with so many opportunities to work with great people and grow in fields that I never thought I had. a chance in
My music has always been a representation of what’s going on in my life, and the music I produce for others I see as soundtracks for their own existence
I’ve had my fair shares of ups and downs, but after recently graduating from Avant Media Institute for Audio and Sound Engineering, I’m more excited than ever to show the world what I’ve been cooking up
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, this road has been more of a rollercoaster… with a lot of loops…. and hang time. I’ve finically bumped my head more than a few times, wasted a lot of time on folks who didn’t respect me or what I do, and I’ve had to dig myself out of the mental trenches on multiple occasions
Creating music for yourself and working on music for others take two different types of energy; it becomes very easy to play the perfectionist roll and. never get out, but sometimes stepping away from it all and taking care of yourself can smoothen out the road much faster than you would have ever imagined
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a freelancing Audio Engineer & Producer. I’m very infatuated with the texture of sound and the way people react to it. Engineering feels like being a very nerdy DJ, and I’m not a full-time artist; I find that just being one and having empathy for others has always drove me to create some of the most heart-to-heart music with artist that I’m very proud of.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I get overstimulated very easily; it’s really annoying actually. I spend a lot of time around speakers and other loud sounds that have a lot of rara, so whenever go to events in the city, I NEED to wear headphones or earplugs, or else I’ll start tweaking internally
