Daily Inspiration: Meet Fariha Nasir

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fariha Nasir. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Fariha Nasir

Fariha is the creative behind Home Decor and DIY blog Pennies for a Fortune. She is a self-taught DIY-er and Interior Decorator with an educational background in Painting.

Pennies for a Fortune started off as a space to document her DIY journey or transforming her builder-grade home into a custom dream home. It has grown into a large community that appreciates good design and the struggles of DIY.

As an immigrant from Pakistan, Fariha uses her platform as a space to talk about diversity, inclusion, and representation.

Her goal is to inspire her audience with more than just pretty pictures but also provide wholesome and relatable content. Being a strong advocate for women empowerment, Fariha hopes to equip women with skills necessary to take charge of their own DIY and Design journeys.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Teaching myself how to use power tools has been a journey with many ups and downs. Lots of failed projects, lots of mistakes made but most importantly, tons of learning.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Fariha is known for her use of color and pattern in interior design. Her work begins with hand-drawn sketches and paint swatches that evolve into layered and inspiring spaces.

Her love for designing hand-drawn patterns stems from her rich South Asian heritage. She still nurtures a sketchbook practice, a habit developed in Art school.

Fariha’s designs are timeless with a modern twist, blending tradition with a unique mix of styles.

Liveable, charming, transitional

Currently, Fariha is working on a book proposal for her first DIY project-based book.
