Meet Will Carter of WC Construction in Spring Branch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Carter.

Will Carter began working in the commercial and retail construction industry as an apprentice electrician at the age of 13 after losing his father to cancer. He worked through high school and college eventually running projects on his own until graduating from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Construction Science and a minor in Business Administration in 2011. Upon graduation, Will took an Assistant Project Manager role at D.E. Harvey Builders in Houston, Texas where he managed interior buildout projects for Oil and Gas clients in the Woodlands and Greater Houston area.

2 years later, Will was promoted to Project Manager and took a job at Turner Construction, an international construction firm where he expanded to small ground-up and healthcare projects. In August of 2014, Will accepted a job with E.E. Reed Construction and added hospitality and multi-family projects to his construction resume. In November of 2017, Will founded WC Construction offering General Contracting and Construction Management Services for commercial, industrial, hospitality, retail, healthcare, and multi-family interior and ground-up construction projects.

WC Construction currently has ongoing and completed projects for Katy Spring, West Pitney West (WPW), Turquoise Acres Ranch, Investment Insurance Coordinators, and Vintage Creek Office Park for Maverick Development.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
WC Construction has been faced with aggressive construction schedules and tight construction budgets. “We see this every day in our industry”, explains Will Carter, founder of WC Construction. “Construction projects have four key elements; Safety, Schedule, Quality, and Budget. Safety comes first and there is never an exception to this rule. That leaves you with Schedule, Quality, and Budget.

In a perfect world, you get all three of those, but many times we have to get creative in one of these areas. When schedule is the main focus, you find ways to think outside of the box and solve the puzzle of logistics and phased scheduling. When budget is the main focus, you get creative with value engineering ideas to maintain the desired design while utilizing innovative construction means, materials and methods to reduce costs.

Quality is impacted by both budget and schedule and requires proper planning and coordination to ensure the right team is assembled and engaged appropriately to deliver the highest quality product. We are fortunate to have worked with the ‘best of the best’ when it comes to designers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors. Established relationships with the key players in the industry yield the ability to muster the right team for the right job and play a major part in the success of every project.”

So, as you know, we’re impressed with WC Construction – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
