Meet Brad Kovnat of NuMe Express

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Kovnat.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brad. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
NuMe Express evolved from what started out as a brick-and-mortar tattoo removal company in its development stage in 2013 to Houston’s 1st and only complete, mobile medical spa when we finally launched in October 2015.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an smooth road overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? Unfortunately, that does not aptly describe my experience to date. NuMe Express is my 3rd start-up company of which I’ve been a founding partner, but the first start-up where I assumed all the risk. Sure, I read and heard all the brutal stories of entrepreneurs and the low probability of actually succeeding, but to me it was worth it because I dreaded the idea of spending the rest of my life working inside someone else’s creation.

As is the case with true entrepreneurs, I started literally from ground zero. I had the vision, revised my business plan and pro forma countless times, spent months performing due diligence until it was ultimately decision time; either I’m all in, financially and personally, or go get a job.

I had the innate need to bring an innovation to the marketplace and make it succeed, but also had the wits about me not to keep pouring time, money and resources into a concept that was not receiving (mostly) constant validation, both from industry data and feedback from other successful entrepreneurs, veteran businessmen, friends, family and many strangers whom became intrigued by my concept. This validation was, and still is what keeps me going today. Truly!

I prefer to reword the last part of this question as “challenge”, not struggle, I find this word to be more emboldening. This whole venture has provided me nothing but new challenges. Every day! I can’t wait to see what ultimately becomes of NuMe Express. What I have become slightly more comfortable with is that new opportunities will keep presenting themselves as long as you continue to believe in your goal and maintain the tenacity and strength to keep yourself and the business moving forward.

Please tell us about NuMe Express.
NuMe Express is an innovative company that marries the successful, decades-old model of mobile health with the ever-expanding demand for minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. We provide popular treatments including: Botox, Dermal Fillers, Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels within mobile medical facilities. We are known for our convenience and excellent quality of care.

What sets us apart from other individuals, practices or companies that call themselves mobile is that we truly are a fully equipped mobile clinic with treatment rooms, correct lighting, equipment, nurses’ station, waiting area, restroom and critical safety supplies you’d expect from any well-established medical facility. We employ practitioners with the same level of clinical expertise you’d find in a well-respected brick-and-mortar dermatologist or plastic surgeon’s office. And of equal importance, our medical director is an established, well-respected, Houston-based plastic surgeon. Many medical directors of medical spas are not plastic surgeons or dermatologists at all, yet rather come from one of several other, unrelated specialty with minimal experience in the complexities of plastic surgery.

These other so-called “mobile” aesthetic companies are truly nothing more than a practitioner with a bag of needles who drives up to your house and performs these “actual medical procedures”, for you and all your friends around a kitchen table.
