Meet Dr. CeCe Cook, PT, Cert. DN of Busybody Fitness & Rehab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. CeCe Cook, PT, Cert. DN.

Dr. Cook can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up as an athlete, I experienced my share of aches and pains including a meniscus injury in high school which required physical therapy (PT). My therapist, like me, was active in sports and could relate to what I was going through. She was an example of someone who shared the same passions as me and made a career of it.

After graduating from PT school, my first position was in the rehabilitation department at a skilled nursing facility. From there, I ventured into home health care for the geriatric and pediatric populations. My goal was to work in every skilled setting to keep my skills polished and diverse, however, I’ll admit that sports and orthopedic therapy are what I loved the most.

Eventually, friends and previous patients began referring people to me for wellness consultations and personal training. Pretty soon I started having more and regular clients and I decided it was time to create a brand. In June 2013, I launched Busybody Fitness & Rehab. Since then it has been my passion to provide my patients with personalized one-on-one physical therapy sessions designed for their individual needs.

Busybody Fitness & Rehab helps patients and clients understand that it’s okay to live a busy lifestyle as long as you create balance. By this, I mean that we manage life, but we also take care of the temples given to us — our bodies. When launching the Busybody brand, I carefully selected the logo because it represents a butterfly in metamorphosis.

I believe that as we grow and evolve in life, we become busybodies. We transform into our best being and soar mentally, physically and intellectually — similar to a caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly. The Busybody motto is a quote by Jim Rohn, ”Take good care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Taking the first leap of faith was the biggest obstacle in starting the business. I left my full-time job so that I could put all of my energy into my PT clinic full time. I made a lot of sacrifices to work for myself. Entrepreneurship is definitely difficult, but I was confident in my calling. It’s so important to understand your personal calling here on earth and to never underestimate yourself and your calling!

Since launching the business, I’ve learned so much about entrepreneurship. I am a trained Doctor of Physical Therapy and health and wellness is my passion. The hardest struggle is balancing my clinical responsibilities with the administrative duties required to successfully run my business. I am the owner which means I wear several hats throughout the work day — some at the same time. However, I am learning to delegate and I support other small businesses by hiring external services.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Busybody Fitness & Rehab – what should we know?
Busybody Fitness & Rehab is a boutique-style physical therapy clinic. We provide rehabilitation services to clients of various abilities and injuries from gym enthusiasts to corporate professionals to professional athletes.

We perform therapy sessions both in our clinic and at patients’ homes, providing a hands-on approach to assess and treat various muscle disorders. We specialize in functional impairments, sports performance, core strengthening, injury prevention and recovery, balance training, pediatric rehabilitation, and more. Our physical therapy sessions are customized for each patient and we provide a posh and energetic recovery environment.

With myself and other Busybody employees being former college athletes, we are familiar with sports and athletics and the injuries that come with them. We also understand that many of our clients are working professionals, therefore our clinic is open after business hours including late evenings and weekends.

At this stage in my business, I’m most proud of the company’s growth. The business has been able to hire Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) in our home healthcare setting. We’ve shared the company’s mission of health and wellness through speaking opportunities and with the recent grand opening.

In addition, the local community has embraced us, as many Houstonians are now booking PT appointments and spreading the word about our outstanding service.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I owe the success of Busybody Fitness & Rehab to my praying Mother, family, friends, and colleagues that have become like family. The Busybody community is full of people that see my vision in the health/wellness arena and have pushed me far beyond measure with support, patient referrals, and spreading the importance of rehabilitation pre and post injuries.

My friends and family are the vessel of my success and the continued success of my PT practice. I am beyond grateful for all of my Busybodies!
