Meet Anastasia Patoka-Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Patoka-Smith. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Anastasia Patoka-Smith

Anastasia Patoka-Smith, a young singer/songwriter from Houston, has recently released a captivating new song titled ‘Ode To My Afro.’ This empowering track celebrates the beauty of natural hair and promotes self-confidence in young girls.

Anastasia is eight years old and a resident of the Heights.

She loves performing! Her next shows will be in Houston and New York in February.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anastasia is half Ukrainian, half African American. She has faced the (very rewarding) struggle of learning two different cultures and finding her unique place in both. She is using her voice to show the world that diversity is beautiful.

In music, Anastasia has learned that not all people will take her seriously learning that she is eight… However, when most hear her voice and speak to her, they cannot deny her talent and composure.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
A singer and songwriter, Anastasia loves writing music based on her mood, experiences, and perspective.

She is most proud of her ability to see a project though. Once she has an idea for a song or goes to learn choreography, she sets her goals to finish the project and always does.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Anastasia’s biggest cheerleaders are her parents. Always believing in her and supporting her hard work to make her dreams a reality.

Her vocal coach and music producer, Jaytel.
