Today we’d like to introduce you to Roland Ryan Carrizal.
Roland, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Roland Ryan Carrizal, I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist of 9 years, 10 years come July. The first idea of “Bodywork/Therapy” came after injuring myself during my pitching career in minor league baseball. When I was about 12, mid-season, I had to take a break due to an elbow injury, which resulted in tendonitis. This was also my first time going to a therapist for my elbow; the therapist used a resistance band and gave me take-home exercises to not only aid in relieving my tendonitis but to strengthen my joint and surrounding muscles. When I look back now, that moment definitely put it in my head: Therapy is key to recovery!
When I got midway into Middle school, I picked up my love for skateboarding. One thing that stayed consistent was bodily injury and the maintenance it took to stay consistent, flexible, fluid, and always on my best game. Skateboarding is full of injuries, especially explosive impact injuries, so these aspects were key not only to recovery but to avoiding injury altogether.
When I graduated high school, Sports Therapy was on my must do list, I just wasn’t sure which direction I would go.
One day I was really contemplating my next step, and in that moment, an ad on Massage Therapy School for “Texas Center for Massage Therapy” came on tv. I looked into it to find out they offered courses in Sports Massage and that week was the week I started my path to Bodywork & Therapeutics!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has DEFINITELY NOT been the smoothest road. Before I could complete my schooling, I lost my dad to kidney failure. Set me back a few weeks, but I knew he was excited for me to finish school before he got ill, so I went back to close out what I had started.
Along the road, these 9/10 years, I’ve ran into all types of issues. From franchise businesses to issues like Covid and weather closures, cancellations, you name it I’ve been through a lot! The way I see it, the worlds a big enough place to move forward without holding on to things that try to stop and halt your path. I’m here to overcome even the hardest obstacles and drive through my goals, and that’s exactly what I’ll always do!
We’ve been impressed with The Massage Connect LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Massage Connect LLC is an On-Call Mobile Massage/Bodywork business. This means I come to you with the table, and sheets, and whatever else necessary. Plenty of people nowadays prefer to stay home, so for those times you need a Quality Bodywork session in the comfort of your own home I’m your guy!
I utilize modalities from Massage Techniques, such as the common Swedish techniques, to Manual/Medical techniques, such as Structural, Russian Sports, and Trigger Point Therapy. Of course, I also offer Reflexology Hot Stones/Himalayan Stones for those the run on the cooler side of life.
I am very goal-oriented, and everybody relieves stress differently. So, for some people it’s a 12-session protocol, for others its weekly or biweekly protocol. Each session may be fully customized to meet every individual’s end Goal. But remember, the work does not end after your session. Changes need maintenance, so make sure you stay consistent and do your given homework to extend the relief from each session.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For those starting off, this career can be demanding. Sometimes, throughout the year, weeks can be slower than others, so just make sure you’re prepared for barriers like those. Make sure you study hard and stay consistent! There are plenty of massage therapists out there; the best love is to learn and stay updated on bodywork. Be open to other ideas/experiences, chances are everyone has a piece of the puzzle for you and your clients. Laws and public outlooks are always changing, so stay updated. Keep your eyes on your goals. Listen to your clients on all levels, most of all being awareness.
For those of you who are natural healers, there’s something special about you the world is waiting to experience, so let them have it!
