Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Flowers. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Jeremy Flowers was born in the Chicago South Side area and raised in Homewood, IL. During his time at Homewood Flossmoor High School, he attended an apprentice program with the Motion Picture Projectionists, Audio Visual Engineers & Computer Technicians Union at the age of 16. This has been his passion for over 20 years, following in the footsteps of his late father Donald Flowers.
His experience consists of installing industrial projectors, LED Walls, and an audio sound systems. Mr. Flowers other expertise includes video engineering of broadcast switchers and other audio/ visual engineering duties. His talents include project management, administration, and leadership which has prompted him to start his own business in 2020 called JayDotKom. LLC. He is also working on increasing his client base utilizing his Drone with the completion of his FAA part 107 Licenses and getting into directing short documentaries, amongst many other future projects and goals.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! A smooth road to success or achieving goals, is a narrative that I don’t believe to exist. The very first obstacle in my journey was self-confidence, which I openly admit is a continuing process. Believing you can and will achieve your goals has to remain a constant of self-reassurance.
After 20 years in my industry, I’ve heard and experienced many negative things, and still, to this day, I don’t allow those moments in time to manifest beyond the moment.
If you’re truly passionate about something, you cannot allow certain acts or words from others to live “Rent Free” in your mind.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently serve as a video engineer of 20 years, in the Chicagoland area. I specialize in live production, ranging from concerts, trade shows, & corporate events. From these categories, I have built and maintained a reputation for being a creative with a fearless passion, while maintaining a level a professionalism that my clients have come to respect and appreciate.
A prideful moment for myself would have to be the day I started my own business, making the decision to officially create JayDotKom, LLC. An exciting moment filled with anxieties, dreams, aspirations, and courage. I had no idea what was to come of such an endeavor, the only thing I knew was I didn’t want to be an employee with a ceiling on my financial status, and limitations on my creative thought processes.
Separating myself from others in a professional sense isn’t really in my mind. Being the best version of myself within the creative space is my priority. Yes, my industry sees trends and popular styles all the time. I believe I’m already apart from others due to individuality; it’s “my” creative style that sets me apart from anyone else. It’s not that I try to be different, as a creative we are all different.
What do you think about happiness?
What a loaded question: what makes me happy? Happiness, as I defined it, is. Something that absolutely brings a smile and level of seriousness to you every time.
For me, there are a few different things that make me happy.
First, time with my family makes me happy because all my time spent with them has always felt like a non-judgmental place for me. In a word that is not always the kindest, my family has always embraced me where I can be the social, hugging teddy I happen to be.
Second, would be the ability to be a creative. Seeing the world from a unique prospective that is myself, and fearless enough to share that vision with the world. Which takes an extreme amount of courage that I display consistently. Just saying that makes me happy!
