Today we’d like to introduce you to David Lewis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a personal trainer for over 20 years. My beginnings in personal training involved learning about physical therapy and rehab issues, so I began to attract many clients that had those issues. Knew some healing modalities from my initial training, but they seemed limiting at times. I spoke with a very good friend who had achieved a Reiki Level Two Certification, and he suggested I take the Reiki Level One course, which I did. By the time I had returned home from class, my hands were tinglingling. I called the teacher, and she laughed and said that possibly meant I was supposed to pursue a Reiki Master certification. It took me another 18 months, but I did eventually become a certified Reiki Master/Teacher.
The Reiki modalities were very comforting and healing to my clients. I noticed it gave me a sense of peace while I gave the service to clients. Very soon, I was booked with Reiki clients.
Today I am semi-retired, working about three-four days a week giving Reiki sessions and teaching others about how to become certified as a Reiki Practitioner.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It just kind of happened organically. There were some tough times. I had never marketed that type of business. I needed a logo and website. The books I was supposed to receive from my teachers were not to my standards. So, I began a fairly aggressive marketing campaign and begin writing books for each level. Today, I am very proud of the work I have done to establish this business in a very competitive market. Many wounded people come to see me. Folks dealing with depression and anxiety, a loss of a parent or child or marriage, feeling just generally stuck, without a clue as to how to move forward. I am amazed at the power of Reiki to help these very people find their way.
I am working as a coach to those clients who like to return once in a while. My age, combined with my being active in AA for 35 years, has given me a lot of experiences to share with others. Most of the time, I can help someone who needs encouragement and just that feeling of unconditional love I can offer.
I also work with stage 4 cancer patients. I have come to respect that every cancer patient is on their own unique journey. I don’t have to see into the future or explain why they have the disease (no one ever knows exactly why we get cancer). Perhaps they have some lessons to learn, and I can steer them towards understanding their disease on a higher level.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Recently, I have begun studying the incredible mystery of becoming a shaman. It is a fascinating topic to study and has become the perfect complement to my business. I have only studied for a year, but I have learned so much about the nature of illness and healing from trauma as I learn more and more about shamanism.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The thing that matters most to me is my spiritual connection. Without it, I cannot continue to stay clean and sober. And since my sobriety is the bedrock of my life, the very foundation of everything I do, I MUST maintain a spiritual path. Then, it goes without saying, to continue to offer Reikiand Shamn services, I put have a spiritual connection. I do this through prayer, meditation, helping others, and giving myself Reiki.
