Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Stygion.
Danny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In my late teens, I was very interested in film directing, and I was inspired by film directors such as David Fincher, Stanley Kubrick, and David Lynch. I also found out about fetishism through documentaries about Bettie Page and Pandora’s Box and magazines such as Marquis Magazine and Skin Two. In my early twenties, I began to experiment with videography and photography and my work began to be accepted for publication in the magazines that I was influenced by.
When I turn 30, I began publishing a fetish/alt magazine called Sinical Magazine, and we began to produce fetish events. In my late thirties, I revisited my early passion for film and directed several short films, which eventually led to me writing and directing my first feature-length film, The Goetia Diaries, at age 42.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Chasing your dreams is never a smooth road, or at least for most. My journey definitely had hardships. Learning to navigate digital/print-on-demand publication, marketing, and build a community. For filmmaking, self-generating a project from start to finish, crowdfunding, finding actors, and self-distribution.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Photography-wise, I specialize in fetish/pin-up photography, and I’ve had the opportunity to photograph some of the most well-known models in the community. Such as Masuimi Max, Dita Von Teese, Emily Marilyn, Rubberdoll, Cervena Fox, and Dani Divine.
My biggest accomplishment is achieving my goal of making a full-length movie.
I believe my visual style, which has been developed over twenty years of photography, is what sets me apart from others in the field.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I believe consistent action towards achieving one’s goals is important than focusing on the notion or idea of luck.
