Hi Fatemah, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I founded CareerTuners in 2010 to help smart, career-driven leaders with professional resume services. Since then, my work has evolved to supporting clients with every step of their career journeys – from finding a career that they’re enthralled with to negotiating five-digit salary raises.
I’m also the co-author of a best-selling career services book, “Resparking Creativity: A Marketing Professional’s Career Guide Towards Becoming a Director.”
As a sought-after speaker and coach, I empower audiences to get out of their comfort zones, improve their career readiness, and advocate for themselves in the workspace – be it negotiating salaries they deserve, earning promotions, or boosting their job satisfaction.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In my journey of building a successful business, I encountered numerous challenges that tested my resilience and determination. From personal struggles to professional hurdles, I faced adversity head-on and chose to adapt rather than succumb to despair.
Leveraging scientific evidence, I founded a work-from-home business that utilized visual aids and written materials to enhance learning and comprehension, overcoming obstacles and thriving in the process. My commitment to empowerment led me to primarily hire women, providing opportunities for those in need and enabling them to reclaim control over their lives.
Living with ADHD presented its own set of challenges, but I turned this weakness into strength by implementing written materials within the company, improving task management, and serving as a valuable training tool for employees.
Recognizing the importance of building a complementary team, I hired individuals who thrived on predictability to compensate for my aversion to monotony, resulting in a harmonious and efficient work environment. Championing diversity, I celebrated the unique mental capacities and quirks of each team member, fostering innovation and creative problem-solving.
Through these experiences, I’ve learned invaluable lessons about adaptability, empowerment, and the strength inherent in diversity. I encourage others to reflect on their challenges and adversities, find ways to turn weaknesses into strengths, and champion diversity in their lives and workplaces. With resilience, determination, and a commitment to embracing diversity, we can overcome obstacles and create a brighter future for all.
