Natalia Salivia

Hi Natalia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
During high school, I discovered my passion for graphic design as a hobby. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, our track team struggled to gain recognition on social media compared to other sports like football. In response, I took the initiative to create a Instagram and Twitter accounts for the team, designing a logo and managing the pages throughout my high school years.

This experience ignited my passion for helping athletes gain visibility through creative sports graphics. I found immense satisfaction in highlighting their skills in unique and eye-catching ways, fostering a sense of pride and recognition within the team and broader community.

After high school, I delved into graphic design, initially with minimal knowledge but a burning desire to learn and improve. I started by creating designs for friends and local organizations, gradually honing my skills through practice and experimentation. With time, I began to attract clients and opportunities, expanding my portfolio and network along the way.

Throughout this journey, I’ve had the privilege of working with remarkable individuals, including Olympians and world champions, which further fueled my passion for design and sports. Each project and collaboration has been a learning experience, shaping me into the designer I am today.

Today, I find myself deeply immersed in the world of graphic design, with a particular focus on sports design. I’ve had the opportunity to work with various sports organizations and athletes, creating visually captivating content that resonates with audiences. My ultimate goal is to continue growing as a designer and make a meaningful impact in the sports industry, leveraging my creativity and passion to tell compelling stories and elevate brands.

Overall, my journey has been characterized by dedication, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. I’m grateful for the experiences that have shaped me and excited for the opportunities that lie ahead.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While my journey has been rewarding, it certainly hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the main struggles I faced was starting out as a relatively inexperienced young designer without a formal degree. This lack of formal education initially made it challenging to establish credibility and compete with more established professionals in the field.

Navigating the design industry without a degree required me to work extra hard to prove myself and showcase my skills to potential clients and employers. I encountered skepticism from some who doubted my capabilities due to my age and educational background. Overcoming these doubts and gaining trust required a combination of persistence, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in my work.

Additionally, breaking into the competitive world of sports design presented its own set of obstacles. It took time to build a strong portfolio and reputation within the industry, and I faced rejection and setbacks along the way. However, each rejection served as a learning opportunity, pushing me to refine my skills and find creative solutions to stand out.

Despite these challenges, I remained determined and focused on my goals, leveraging every opportunity to learn, grow, and improve as a designer. Over time, my dedication and hard work began to pay off as I secured more projects, built a solid client base, and earned recognition for my work.

In retrospect, while the road may not have always been smooth, overcoming these challenges has made me a stronger and more resilient designer. They’ve taught me valuable lessons about perseverance, self-belief, and the importance of continuously pushing beyond my comfort zone to achieve success.
