Today we’d like to introduce you to a family doctor – Dr. Chaudhari, MD.
Recent healthcare industry studies reveal that only 1 in 3 doctors will remain in private practice by the end of 2016. Some industry expert thinks that private practices are on the brink of extinction. However, on June 15, 2017, they noticed a different trend at the open house of “I and My Doctors Clinic” in Sugar Land. Western Montana’s first trained doctor Dr. Chaudhari opened her own clinic in Sugar Land six months after landing in Houston. She and her Doctors Clinic is a part of the Park at Sugar Creek Medical Center located on I-59 and Sugar Creek & Dairy Ashford.
After winning the hearts of Montana ranchers, Dr. Chaudhari along with her husband moved to Houston a year ago to raise their daughter in the more culturally diverse metropolitan city—Houston. After arriving in Houston, Dr. Chaudhari started a job as a family physician. However, she fed up with a population health program and the broken health care system of Houston. After seeing 30-35 patients a day, she felt that she compromising on quality and not giving enough time to her own patients. Thus, she decided to open her own private practice to provide a quality care in Houston.
As Dr. Chaudhari describes, “I am a differently trained physician. “Choose it wise” was the core principle of my training to cut the significant healthcare cost. She does not like to run unnecessary tests and to see patients for five minutes. She likes making her own decisions. She enjoys not having to go through some committee or a clinic manager at a hospital and taking six months to get another otoscope. She likes being able to–if she can afford to pay for it–put what she wants in her clinic. For instance, she can build up a woman health practice if she wants.
The open-house invitation’s tagline—Drop in and Get a Health Dose of Hospitality— suggests the uniqueness of her practice. She firmly believes, “a good relationship with a patient makes more wonders than any medicine. I do not want to treat patients to earn more money, but I want to help my patients to overcome their health issues. My patients should get enough time to talk to me and get all their questions answered.”
In June 2016, Dr. Chaudhari becomes the first trained physician of the Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana. Prior to joining the residency program, she spent significant time with the Internal Medicine group of Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, Community Health Partners of Bozeman, MT Tri-City Pediatric Cardiology Inc. and Pulmonary Associates-East Tennessee of Johnson City, TN.
Dr. Chaudhari provides continuing and comprehensive healthcare for the entire family that includes management of chronic and acute health problems, wellness exams, school and pre-employment physical exams, and skin care. Dr. Chaudhari is an affiliated with Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital and Oak Bend Medical Center. Besides English, she also fluently speaks Gujarati, Hindi, and Punjabi languages.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I opened my clinic four months after coming to Houston. I did not know anyone here. I have many days where I did not see a single patient.
My major challenge was to introduce my clinic– I and My Doctors Clinic to the community. I did not have much money either to pay for expensive advertisements. We took a low approach for marketing. I and my family used to go Hindu temples, grocery stores, restaurants, public places, public health fairs, to introduce my practice and hang my clinic’s posters.
Also, my husband developed a program for a digital marketing for my clinic too. Everything worked out and we are on right track.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about I and My Doctors Clinic – what should we know?
