Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Sukholutsky.
Dennis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I developed a passion for fitness while training for lacrosse in high school and college. After I graduated I started doing CrossFit and fell in love with the fitness program. After several years of practicing CrossFit on my own I decided to open a CrossFit gym to help others experience how fitness can be fun and friendly while also being challenging for all fitness levels.
Over the past four years Vintage has grown into a thriving fitness-focused community. This revolves around our incredible coaching staff: eight CrossFit coaches, two Yoga instructors, one Endurance instructor, one CrossFit Kids coach, and an event coordinator.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every week is a learning experience while running a business. There were and continue to be many challenges along the way. I constantly re-evaluate how I balance working at Vintage with spending time with my family (wife and two kids aged 1 & 3). Similarly, I work on providing the correct amount of structure and processes at the gym while also allowing the coaches and members to express their personalities and have fun.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Vintage CrossFit specializes in providing a friendly training environment for all levels of fitness. We offer a wide variety of classes: CrossFit, Fundamentals, 30-minute QuickFit, Endurance, Yoga, Kids, Swimming, Open Gym, and specialty seminars in Olympic Weightlifting.
We also host several fitness competitions at Vintage to allow our members to be a part of the larger competitive CrossFit community in Houston. Our events include the Wicked Winter Showdown (January), the Vintage Summer Series (June – August), and the Spicy Summer Showdown (September).
What were you like growing up?
I grew up playing sports: basketball, football, and then lacrosse. However I also played lots of video games and enjoyed computers and programming, which is the professional career I pursued before switching gears to CrossFit.
