Daily Inspiration: Meet Lunara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lunara. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Lunara

Lunara, an Alternative Rock band from Houston, TX, emerged from the local music scene in May 2023. Forged from a diverse musical background, including metal, rock, nu-metal, alternative country, and classical, comes a unique audio experience that appeals to any fan of music. Kat, a classically trained vocalist who traded in opera for a hard-hitting, powerful, soulful, and consistent vocal performance, is the former lead vocalist of band Para Bellum, who was featured on local Houston radio station 94.5 The Buzz in 2021 as a winner of their Hometown for the Holidays competition and became well known in the local scene. This band is her powerful comeback, along with seasoned musicians, including bassist Ryan Lindsay and rhythm guitarist Jacob Ortiz, former members of Reckless High as well as various other projects, who have performed together for more than a decade. Lead guitarist Chris Coté and drummer Chris Villarreal have been jamming together for the past 18 years, since high school, and are former members of Illusion of Fate. Their chemistry shines through when they perform, captivating the crowd and winning them over in every live performance. Lunara’s single “Calling Me” was selected for 94.5 The Buzz’s Hometown For The Holidays 2023 contest and was played on the air for the entire month of December.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far, everything has gone pretty smoothly; if anything, it has gone better than expected. We were a band for only 6 months when we won 94.5 The Buzz’s Hometown For The Holidays contest. We were one of the ten bands selected out of 50+ bands. That really catapulted us and got us in front of all of Houston, and anyone else who listens to The Buzz nationwide. Now our goal is to keep putting out new music for our fans to enjoy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Like most local bands, all the members do workday jobs, but we would like to get to a point where the band is our main source of income. However, that is not why we do it. We play for the love of music and to spread a message to everyone who hears us. Our favorite thing is when someone tells us our song really spoke to them and that it helped them in some sort of way. For example, our debut single, “Calling Me,” was the song we had on the radio for a month. We had a fan reach out to us saying he just lost his mother, and our song helped him get through that loss and feel reconnected to her. That song means a lot to us because it is about a friend of ours who we lost to suicide. That fan’s comment really hit home for us, and we are glad we could help him just by doing what we love.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
There are so many people we could list. We are so thankful for all the support and help we get from our fans and friends. We honestly could not do this without any of those people. We also get a lot of support from our coworkers, producer, and a few venues. The amount of love we feel from everyone really drives us. Most of all, we would love to thank our families. They have been behind us our whole lives, supporting everything we have done to this point, and will continue to support us with everything we do. Thank you all. We love all of you!
