Today we’d like to introduce you to Rotimi J.
Hi Rotimi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I want to thank God for giving me life and purpose. I would like to thank my beautiful wife. I remember all of the sleepless nights trying to figure out how to make a name for myself. Worrying about where life was going to take me. As I’ve gotten older, I understand the power of God and what he can do.
Sometimes, he favors the person no one would expect. I grew up in rough neighborhoods as a kid where we seen it all. I had low self-esteem and didn’t talk much. I just had this drive to be the best individual that I could be. Over a decade later, this is now my tenth publication.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always struggles in this game. It can break you if you’re not prepared… Making the money to fund yourself independently is a huge part. Finding your crowd that you want to appeal to. Fighting with yourself on decisions that haven’t paid off yet. Losing connections with friends or family because people don’t understand you anymore. Everyone feeling like you changed because you did. Trusting God’s plan.
Yes, there are plenty of struggles, and everyone has their own. I chose to let those moments build me. I wear them like a badge of honor. They are the scars that ultimately made me stronger.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Right now, I’m just making the work that my inner child would enjoy. The inspiration has mainly been WWF: Attitude Era, WWE, Thrasher Magazine, Action Bronson, Boxing, Future, and Metro.
I’m currently working on The Rock, Final Boss portrait painting. He came back for WrestleMania 40 and broke records. He was gifted the “Peoples Champ” title by Muhammad Ali’s widow.
My new mission is to go digital and translate my work over to streetwear. My wife influenced this project. She is very crafty and innovative.
The store is called 8318ART. The numbers come from the street address of the house I grew up in as a kid. I’m paying respect to John and Elizabeth Pierre.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
